Over a week ago I ran 9 miles (I have run this distance no problem before), it was bitterly cold and on the way back I was aware I was bracing myself against it. That afternoon I stiffened up and was walking like the tinman, the aches subsided a little but remained in my left hip so I rested, when it seemed to have gone I tried a short run and 10 minutes in it started again.
To describe it, it aches on the side, under the buttock, lower back, and when I lift my leg up (as in running) in the groin crease (the adductors). I googled around and piriformis syndrome sounds possible, I followed the advised stretches and they gave on the spot relief but it soon returns. It's worse after sitting, better for walking/standing and warmth seems to help.
Any advice or thoughts would be very welcome - my deepest fear is I'll not be able to do my half marathon this September.

Can't help you really but my advice would be visit the docs asap, as I had hip bursitis and left it ages thinking rest would do it good, when in fact could have been doing exercises to help it
Visit to the dr (or sports physio) sounds a good idea if it doesn't get any better, but maybe it is just linked to being extra tense from the cold - like you can get odd aches if you over-compensate on one side of the body if there's a bit of a pain on the opposite side. Hope it's sorted soon for you. September's a good way off (but I know how the mind works and escalates things - I was going down with something very serious this morning, because I had a bit of a puffy eye...)
I would get to the sports physio if you can - it was a great help when I had hip bursitis. As sofa-sloth says, specific exercises can help recovery and prevent further injury. September is a fair way off so don't panic yet. Good luck !
Thanks everyone, I've expected it to get better on its own but it looks like a trip to the docs may be in order - have just learned they have a physio so that sounds promising.
Glad to read sofasloth & sfb got sorted with bursitis, it sounds awful.
