Hi everybody, hope you are all well. It’s been a while since my last post, about 3 months to be fair.

I had all the best intentions when I completed C25K to continue running and improving my health and physical condition which for a while I did. I got myself up to reaching the magic 5k in distance and continued to do this at the weekends with a couple of shorter runs in the week. I still haven’t done that park run yet (still scared) I know the people are lovely but just not brave enough yet.

Anyway the running continued then the nights got darker. I got myself a head torch and the appropriate high viz clothing and continued on.

Then one fateful evening I went for a tumble right by the side of the canal in the dark, I got up finished my run and didn’t think about it until it was time for the next run.

I DIDN’T GO and the next day I DIDN’T go and so on it went.

I came to the realisation that I was scared, scared of falling scared of running in the dark, just scared.

I thought about it for while 💡and thought I need to find another venue, I need to join a gym💡

Now that in its self was a search, I researched and visited a couple in my area but as you can guess I was 😬 well not so much scared but embarrassed, inexperienced and still very unfit compared to what I saw exercising in front of me. And I know these are just my gremlins, I shouldn’t really care about what others thought but I did, so I walked away from them. Spent a few more days mulling things over then had a another 💡moment.

I went to a local school health centre which is very small and not very busy PERFECT for me.

I’ve been attending for the last 4 weeks now and the running 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ is coming back slowly

Added bonus I’ve lost a bit of weight too using a few other pieces of equipment as well.

I’m excited 😆 and looking forward to the month of getting fitter and the elusive park run

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ jog on guys 🤣😂🤣😂

Ps I’m not 😬😬😬😬😬 anymore. I don’t care 😆 I might not be as fit as others but I’m trying and I’m happy with that 👍🏽

Excellent. It's all about finding what works for you and sounds like you've nailed it now. Lighter nights are on their way so you'll be out there before you know it.

Hi Tracme, stand proudly on the determination pedestal - I salute you!

Sorry you had that off putting experience but well done for keeping going.

The days are getting longer...😀

What a lovely, hopeful post. Well done for facing down your challenges. I agree it is really challenging to keep up the miles over the winter months. However, the nights are (just) beginning to draw out and soon you will be able to run safely outdoors and next year you have a solution in the back pocket!

It's great that you are back on track and found a solution that works for you! Longer and warmer days will be along soon.

Ooh I feel for you, taking a tumble. Not nice at any time but really not nice on a dark tow path. Been there with the 'too unfit for the gym' feelings too. You're not alone! As Elfe5 says, you stand proud on that determination podium. You didn't give up, longer days are on the way, Spring is round the corner and who knows the elusive Park run may sneak up and grab you (I haven't done one yet either)😁Whatever and however, feel proud of all you've accomplished and enjoy what's yet to come.xx

Glad to hear from you Tracme ....sorry to hear about your fall, it can be really off putting, as it was in your case...but you knew that you were missing your running & were trying everything you could think of to get started again & here you are...back enjoying yourself....it doesn’t matter about distance or speed, the fact that you’re enjoying yourself is what matters & we’re all glad to hear it....just don’t disappear again!!!
