Week 5 Run 3 Failed

First run to fail. :( Had to slow down halfway through of my 20mins run.. just struggled to breathe and had a dry throat making it even more difficult to swallow & breathe out through mouth. But enjoyed it nonetheless, just need to repeat the run before i jump on to week 6.

In my experience failed runs (dont let Oldfloss hear you using the F word 😳) are followed by a good run that restores confidence and makes tou feel fab.

Mmmmmmm..........if you had to slow down, you were going too fast in the first place.

As a new runner, all your runs should be at an easy pace, which is defined by being able to hold a non gasping conversation, as you would when walking.

If you don't get the oxygen in, then your body can't use it, you tire quickly and are much nearer the injury threshold. The easy pace will trigger enough adaptation of your body through C25K, allowing your strength and injury resistance to build, before you push for speed.

Slow is good.

Thank you. I wasnt going too fast, i was just doing a light jog - i had to slow down to a walk (sorry should have added that). I think having a bit of a cold doesnt help either.

No no! Not a fail, just a practice! Sounds like you might have been too fast, so slow & steady next time. Glad you enjoyed your run - that's the most important thing! 😄

Oh dear oh dear... no, no , no ... we do not use the “F” word here!!

We do not fail on C25K... we have practice runs...there is not a runner who has done or is doing this program that has not had at least one practice run, it is not a problem, it is a way to learn.

Struggling for breath to me would indicate that the pace is too quick and your body is requesting more oxygen, easy fix...run slower...

It is hard to know the right pace, but your body will talk to you and let you know when you are pushing too hard, it’s about completing the 20mins, slow it down and you will be okay

👍❤️🏃‍♂️

Definitely not a fail, every run is different could be lots of reasons why this one was a bit tough, don’t let it worry you just take it easy on the next one and I’m sure all will be good 😊

Ah drat. That was the first run I had to repeat as well. You'll nail it next time.

Ahh thank goodness, thought it was just me. That 20mins was a bit too much compare to the previous runs/session where u have a break in between.

No such word on this forum... practice, blip, trial..but.. the answer... simple... Slow down. :)

If you are struggling to breathe, that should be telling you something...it is... it is saying. too fast:)

This is a great journey...enjoy it.

Sounds like a good practice run, as you have learnt something from it - pace yourself and you’ll be fine next time. 🤓

Great comments above. Do you mind me asking... was it 10 minutes in that you slowed to a walk? I’m attempting this run tomorrow and to be honest I’m not entirely sure I’m ready, however anything over the 8 I did last run and I’ll be happy!

Yes, was about to give up at 8mins but pushed myself more and decided to slow down to brisk walk after 10mins just to catch my breath. Then carried on with a light jog for the last 10mins.

Just take your time and take the advise from above. Im lookin forward to do this run again but had to give a day's rest before another attempt. Goodluck. :)

Not a fail - you just slowed down - you were still out, moving about. We all have had and still have a run like this. Just let it go and move on to your next run. No fail!!!!

Hey _Rea,

It was cold yesterday and when I ran I noticed I got a dry throat as well. I wasn’t going too fast and it was harder to breathe. I think it was because the air was cold.

I’m sure that your next run will go really well. Good luck x
