Accidental New Years Day Parkrun

Well, as with so many of us I wanted to start 2018 in the right way with a run so off I headed to the park at 9:30. My intention was 3 laps as this is the Parkrun course but to try some of the "Fartlek" training i have come across on line in an attempt to get my speed up. (Fartlek is a Swedish training method which is why it sounds like the name of a rude Ikea shelving system).

Lo and behold there were the Parkrun volunteers. They must be all packing away I thought until I spoke to a couple who had just parked up and from their dress were clearly runners. "Has there been a Parkrun today?" I asked... "No mate its starting at 10am".

It serves me right for not being on Face Book! It also compensates for a fortnight ago when I was running round the park with a few others on a Saturday morning who had also not heard that Parkrun was cancelled due to the ice.

Anyway... ended up with an official time of 37:30 which for me is pretty damned good and... frustratingly... 55 secs off my PB.

I'll take this as a positive and fortuitous start to 2018.

Happy New Year!!!
