I decided to run on the last day of this year as a sort of tribute to the fact that in August the very idea of me running anywhere would see me reaching for a chocolate biscuit and yet miraculously in first week of November (in the same week as my 48th birthday) I graduated C25K and have been committed to running for 30 minutes 3 times a week since then (with a few lapses here and there but you won't hold those against me right? π)
It didn't begin as anything special - grey weather and a night of rain meaning I chose my least inspiring (but least slippy, muddy & uneven) path along the ring road and local streets. However I felt good and kept a pretty even pace while enjoying a radio 4 drama - with 30 minutes coming round earlier than expected ... and that's when I thought why not push it and see if I can run the mythical 5k?
Up to now I've been running just under 4k pretty consistently in 30 mins and I did wonder about how sensible I was being (I could hear all the slow and steady gradual build up advice from IannodaTruffe and Old Floss somewhere in the distance) but today I just kept going anyway. At 35 minutes my running app told me I'd run 4.6k and at that point there was no way I was going to stop at 40 minutes I'd run 5.25k ππ.
In my excitement I missed the end of the radio drama as I was living out one all of my own - whooping and jumping much to the fear of local dog walker who crossed the road to avoid me!
Feeling fantastic - New Year's Resolution can now be improving on my 5k time. Get me!!!
Happy New Year everyone and as always thank you all for being the fantastically positive and supportive folk you are!!
