Week 8 run 1

I’m supposed to do week 8 run 1 tomorrow. I’m really anxious as I only just managed to complete 25 mins at slow pace a day ago and only covered 3.8 k. I think I’m way too slow. Any advice. I do t want to repeat as I’ve got to finish before January as I start a hectic new job and want to be a c25k graduate before then.

Slow and slower! Distance doesn't really matter as you can build that up gradually. Good luck and well done 👏

I completed Week 8 Run 1 today and I covered 3.77k! So if you are slow I must be a snail 🐌 😆. As long as you keep going at your steady pace, it doesn’t matter how fast, you are still completing the run 😄 good luck!

Steady and slow...not speed... ask any snail :)

Too slow for what?

Sorry, you might not be in the next Olympic squad, but running slowly is good for you and it seems can make you live longer.

Relax and enjoy yourself.

You are doing well. As many people would agree with me : the slow pace really doesn’t matter as your body slowly gets used to running longer distances . You will be able to carry on without injuring yourself . I only graduated a week and a half ago : I can’t believe I am giving advice. But this is what I found out from others on here but also experienced myself 🙂

Hello and greetings from a guy who only knew fast. A guy whose fast was marginally faster than Armstrong's run on the Moon, but l still wanted to go faster to quench my macho thirst.

Sadly, my only fast turned out to be a fast drive to a nearest physio as a result of stupidity exertion extraordinaire and a further result was a savaged bank account and months and months off running.

Slow guys don't go through that. ;)

You graduate when you finish week 9 having run for 30 minutes three times. You're nearly there. Distance/speed don't matter at this stage. You have officially been a distance runner for some weeks now. (Remember that if anyone asks you what you do in your spare time.)

Top comment BW - you're right. Crikey - you ran for 25 minutes, Roryrun! I remember when I managed that. albeit slowly (only up to 28 now anyway) and I was ecstatic. But *I* am a distance runner, and so are you! No-one could come to this cold and do 25 minutes running, at any speed.

No such thing as too slow.. you run steadily and slowly and you enjoy it:)

All you have to do is run for the 30 minutes... the 5K can come afterwards as your stamina and strength evolves... Just move slowly towards the podium... I have your badge waiting!

Well - I'm doing W9 R3 tomorrow and the twice I've done it so far I only completed 3.6k each time. However, 10 weeks ago 60 secs left me exhausted. Remember how far you have come. My aim is to do 4k in 30 mins by end of Jan - and if I do I will be over the moon! Good luck!

I think I got misled by the programme name and thought my aim was 5k in 30 mins. But now I’m a graduate and you know what I don’t care anymore. I can run, I can keep moving and breathing for 30 mins plus in my book that’s some going. If I do 5k it can be in an hour for all I care- I’m happy to say I’m a runner not a racer.

The lovely thing about this forum is the complete lack of ego , we’re all accepted and encouraged for whatever we do. For me being a graduate is like passing my driving test - I don’t remember wanting to drive further and faster everyday but I’d learned a skill I could use whenever I wanted and every drive was different, just like our runs

Good luck in your future runs , if you’re not a graduate by January you’ll still be a runner....

Thank you for all your support everyone. I took it slow as you said and without doing that I would not have completed my week 8 run 1 that I did today. Was so anxious about not being able to do it but what a feeling of achievement! So exhausted and a bit headaches but pleased with myself.I was always the one that didn’t have the stamina, the last one that my mates would wait for and not fit.I’m sick of being that person. I really want to prove to myself I can get out there and be a runner. Thank you for all your support.

Well done, roryrun !! Surprising yourself at what you can achieve is part of the c25k story. I’m glad that you managed w8r1. Like lyndajet I will be doing my w9r3 next and am elated that I can run for 30 minutes. So proud! You will do it no problem, just keep those feet pumping!

I am an arthritic snail and I graduated several weeks ago. You will get there slowly and steadily, my Friend. Good luck.

Its not the speed or the distance. just enjoy what ever pace you can do. Speed and distance will come naturally

I completed W8R1 last night and I was slow but I am concentrating on is not stopping and then my speed will come. It was hard, for me, but least I did it.

You will do it and don’t worry about speed.

It’s very liberating going at my own pace. Thanks to this forum for drilling a such a life-changing thought into my head. Roryrun run run - just for yourself and at the pace that works for you.
