Phew, I feel like I'm back on track with the programme again. Previously I'd got up to Week 3 run 2 but then my knee went and I had about a month with no running. Used the time to at least get myself measured up for some decent running shoes though. When I felt the knee was strong enough to run on again (even walking was a trouble for a couple of weeks), I restarted with Week 2 and then Week 3 and now finally I feel like I'm back making progress! This one sounded more scary with its 5 min runs than it actually turned out to be, despite the driving freezing wind and attempts at snowing. The knee still aches a bit whilst running but seems ok post-run each time, fingers crossed. My GP seemed to think I hadn't done any lasting damage at least.
The plan had been to complete by Christmas, that's out of the window now and in fact it looks like I'll be doing the rumoured-brutal Week 5 run 3 (20mins, yikes) whilst at the mother-in-law's! Gives me an excuse to get out of the house (actually she's ok, I'm being mean). And then Week 6 over the Xmas week itself, not sure how easy that's going to be what with the required festive dietary intake...

Well done for starting the program again - it would have been easy to walk (or limp) away, just goes to show how addictive this running thing can get.
I definitely look forward to the running days - get them done first thing in the morning after dropping the kids at school and then I'm fired up for the day. Great feeling.
Well done for your determination to go back there! Take it slow and easy for your knee. And good luck with your Xmas runs, betwen the eggnog and the turkey? I'm thinking about it too as I'll be away as well and as a guest you can't really get out whenever you feel like it...
And don't worry about 5/3, it isnt as daunting as it looks, in fact i really enjoyed it.
I’m far from an expert ( only completed wk 5 d 1 today ) but i find running on grass much kinder to my knees , ankles etc . If its feasible for you , maybe have a look at it
Yes I think I'd prefer that, I'd have to drive to get somewhere to run on grass though and I suspect the easy immediacy of being able to get out my front door and straight into a run and then straight in the house for a shower is helping the motivation at the moment. Maybe once I'm thoroughly hooked such that motivation is no longer a problem, I'll try somewhere further afield. The local estate loop I do is quite hilly too, which makes it hard(er) work!
