Having been thoroughly impressed by both Hidden doing a sub 30 minute 5k and Razouski running an utterly tremendous 4 mins 15 seconds 1km, I came to the conclusion that I needed to do some game-upping!
I always thought I could only ever be slow and long distance, but SCB very Kindly explained that by using the 'speed' podcast, run times had gradually fallen and hence the recent sub 30 minuter.
My 80s fellow retro runner Razouski, seemed to have managed her great time purely on cake power! (I joke..) But the serious point is both tackled the 'speed' issue by doing some interval training. Something I have avoided like the plague, to date. I looked at it in August and thought nope that's not for me.
Today I bit the bullet - all I can say is anyone who used Laura - she is one tough cookie! I almost crawled home after my run. The gruesome details are below
But in summary, Mr Smooth you were always a pussycat, Laura - you're a tiger. Now I need a hug, and a long rest....
Happy days - another running challenge has arrived.
Oh and big thanks to Jonesycat who pointed me in the right direction for Laura's pesky podcast!

I have rejoined Laura for some interval training. I am redoing the C25K but this time running as fast as I can (plus a slow 5k each weekend). I hope that this will help improve my speed and come the spring (when there is more daylight time) I will return to distance.
This week I did week 1 and when Laura told me to give myself a pat on the back, I felt I had come home
She is my virtual girl crush!

She’ll show you her soft side as you get to know her😊
...which is why we often suggest the C25K+ podcasts... They do work, for many of us... and ...If this old snail ended up doing a 3K in less than 18 minutes, using Speed, ( the podcast, not the drug) on one occasion...it must tell us something...
It's tough isn't it? But very exhilarating - the first 4 runs anyway! I couldn't finish it the first time I did it - or rather let's say there was very little distinction between the running fast and the running slow bits!
I often end up mentally shouting at her when doing the speed podcast. And I can't keep my pace in time with her beat on any of it,..
But I guess sit must be doing some good. I just can't imagine doing it on the high walks at Barbican. I usually have to speed walk along them when I'm rushing from Farringdon to get to choir rehearsals, but running... I don't think so.
sitting down tomorrow, as we are in the car all day! So we are on for Saturday then! Yay! Fix it is...brilliant I never thought I'd meet a real live C25ker.. and a fellow 80s freak too!
Well done on upping your game.... everybody's upping their game.... I can't be arsed to up my game!! I feel that I should.... but then I just carry on as normal. 5k in 35 mins, 32 mins if I'm trying really hard.... which was like once. And now that you've said it's painful I doubly can't be arsed.
I am going to do Juju's 10k plan, maybe that's enough for now. It's hard not to feel like we should be making improvements though. I hope that it get easier for you, if you stick at it, I am sure that you will reap the benefits! Just think of it like the next c25k.
That was a definite one off! Well done on the 10k :).... I like that sound of that being easier!! I love it how we all do it differently.... just getting out there and doing our thing, whatever that is, is fabulous!
