Week 2 run 2

That’s run 2 of week 2 finished on a lovely frosty morning, run felt really good but again the last 90 second run was tough. Having problems with my right shin though which is starting to bother me now, any recommendations to help ease this during and after running?

Have you been stretching after your runs? You may have to rest an extra day before next run and have you been for gait test for trainers at any good unning shop. I got new trainers & what a difference. Good luck it will get better once body gets used to running 🏃‍♂️😊

I used to suffer dreadfully with painful shins during the first week or so, it disappeared as my legs adapted to exercise, just take it steady and plenty of stretching after a run. Make sure you are hydrated before you go out as well.

Thanks for all your recommendations, going to go and get some new running trainers tomorrow, the ones I have are comfortable but are getting on a bit so hopefully that’s half the problem, yes been stretching once I’ve completed my runs. Have to see how it goes with the new trainers and go from there, thanks again, Mark.

If getting new trainers, do go to a specialist running shop, not a discount sports shed, and have a gait analysis. This will assess what sort of support you need for your particular running style.

Decathlon does gait analysis, bought my Asics there, worked for me 😊

Enjoy the programme and happy running 😊

Is the pain on the outside or inside of your shin?

If the former then I suffered badly in the early stages of C25K but stretching and progress through the programme has eliminated this and I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. Just remember that the outer shin muscle works in tandem with the calf muscle, so both need stretching before and after a run.

If the pain is on the inside of the shin then this could point to shin splints - and best to rest and see your GP for this one.

Plus what others have said - get some gait analysis done and buy trainers to suit you.
