I'm beginning to get a bit fed up of all these delays recently. Haven't run since Monday night and I'll tell you why.
I slipped over at work last weekend and twisted my right foot for the 3rd time since the end of Spring.
The next day my lower back was tingling and a bit stiff but I put it down to sleeping in a bad way.
So I went for my run on Monday anyway. Said to myself that if my foot or back pains during the run that I would stop but all was well.
Unfortunately my right foot/ankle is still paining me and my back is still stiff. Plus I have nightshifts for the rest of the week again too.
So I said to myself the past couple of days that I'd just try to take it easy and rest up for work.
Hoping that my poor foot and back would return to normal.
At this point they're still bothering me and I'm just concerned that running right now would aggrevate rather than help. So I'm stuck on the couch with my right foot up and a cushion behind my back.
I have 4 runs runs and was hoping to graduate this month. Looks like graduation will be early next month instead now. 😔

You poor thing...its so frustrating when things get in the way .hope all is better soon
Oh no! Delays are frustrating but resting up is probably the smart thing to do - especially if you are on nights as that is likely not going to help speed along your recovery. I hated it when this happened to me but it will pass and you'll be out there before you know it.
Hope you recover sooner than you think. Whether it's this month or next, you're almost there now! You are doing really well xx
Hi Donna, You're right to take it easy for now even if I can understand how annoying it is, so close to graduation (that won't be much of comfort, but I've had a bad cold and sore throat and have been unable to run since Sunday. Too ropey and voiceless: I'm a female version of the Godfather, whispering that is...). But if the pain is too bad, it'll take even longer to heal if you insist. Perhaps, you should check with a GP?
And just a thought because you said that your back also hurts and it's the third time you twisted your right foot: have you ever checked your balance? I mean with a chiropodist. For instance, I started running late August with 70% of my weight on my left foot and it was no surprise I had a sore ankle and inflammation and blocked my lower back very badly last spring. The chiropodist designed a pair of inner soles and I see the physio every week or so, which enabled me to finish the programme without too much trouble and no back pain.
Have you tried to do some stretching for your back, very gently?
In any case, take it easy and relax: graduation is still closer than it was when you started (I know it's ovious but just to remind you). Good luck with your night shifts!
Thank you and to be honest with you, I always felt that my left leg is longer than my right leg. They say we all have one side that is bigger than the other but I've noticed it.
It's not noticeable to others but it's something I've been meaning to talk to my GP about. Think I will make an appointment tomorrow and stop putting it off.
My back is more stiff like right now more than actual pain but I wouldn't want it to get any worse.
More of a stiff feeling when you have slept in a position too long, or you need a new mattress and your lower back feels stiff in the morning.
We burden my GP with all my aches and pains once I get to see her hopefully early next.

Hi Donna
Sorry to hear you are laid up. One leg longer than the other is more common than you might imagine. Sometimes it's to do with your pelvis being out of alignment, which can happen when you have children. An osteopath should be able to sort it. Ask your GP to refer you and then I think the NHS pay. Although of course it could be something entirely different. One of the great things about running is that you get to know your own body better, with all its little idiosyncrasies! Hope your better and back out again soon.
Hi Donna, poor you if it’s not one thing it’s another, but consider the graduation an early Christmas present. It doesn’t matter a fig when you get there, but getting there uninjured and healthy is way more important. Good luck with the resting and hope to see you running soon.
I know the feelings as I also have had to rest up for almost three weeks now as my good knee (the other one is damage) took it all and been swollen and stiff. Is it frustrating as I’d like to finish this program next week since my first 5km run due 9 Dec
Better to rest a bit now than to do more damage. I am currently resting for a few more days with injury but I know I will be back on the programme next week. We will still get there’s and we are ahead of where we were!
May be worthwhile asking a physio for some exercises to strengthen your ankles to try to minimise future injuries .You can probably even do them on the couch!
Oh no , gutted for you, hope you feel better after some rest. I went to chiropractor for bad back to be told that pelvis out of alignment so one leg longer than other so might be worth a visit. Seems we are both destined to graduate together lol as I too haven’t run since Tuesday due to bad calves and am now working nights so can’t run till next week x get plenty of rest and we WILL both graduate xx
Graduation will happen!! I can imagine all these delays are so annoying, but you're doing wonderful! rest up again and then get back out when you feel ready!! No rush! The runs will be waiting!
