Hey SanjuP

Firstly ... well done you for getting of the couch :-)

Calf pain can come from them being overworked too quickly. Take it steady, don't try to do too much, and build it up over time.

Don't worry about the running, just get moving and it will come in time as your strength increases, and in the mean-time you have your head in the right place and want to change ... so well done.

Can't help with the Sports Bra, even though I have two, the only thing I have to put in one is my phone ... ;-)

I can't remember who, but someone, posted a comparison of Sports Bras with pro's and con's ...

Good luck, I will be watching out for your future posts, and your progress .... :-)

hello!

If you are an unusual bra size, I found the best way to go is simply to search the internet for your bra size and "sports bra" and see which brands come up, and start from those. Eventually you'll probably want to try some on before committing though so hopefully you can get yourself to a good shop for a fitting / try-on session.

The person Christene refers to is the inimitable Jancanrun of this forum: try these threads for ideas

Two things people will say are "go slowly" (there is no speed which is "too slow") and when you start running, make sure you have proper running shoes, not just any old trainers. Preferably go to a running shop rather than a general "sports shop".

Good luck! x

OH and - have you downloaded the Couch to 5K programme, either the app or the podcasts? This is what the forum is dedicated to and will definitely turn you from couch potato into Sanju the runner :)

- also just seen the other response below, if you are at the stage of starting with walking first, good luck, you'll be walking for miles soon! I think there's a walking for health forum on here too.

Hi SanjuP

Runners World do a start walking plan on their US site. Although they charge for the app you can download the PDF text version for free.

rw.runnersworld.com/trainin...

There might be others out there as well, this is just the first thing that Google threw up.

The main thing with any plan is stick with it. No matter how much you don't want to go out and exercise you always feel better at the end of it and glad you made the effort.

Keep posting I've found there are some amazing people on this forum who will keep you going.

Do you have a Bravissimo near you? I went in and got fitted for a running bra. Tbey deal with D cup and upwards. I’m actually slim, but Im a (just) D cup and the bra fits well and keeps me totally move free while running. They go up to all the D and larger bras.

I’ve 2 both are great ones a front loader from M&S which is really comfortable and the others called Shock absorber. Google M&S sports bra hope that helps 🏃‍♀️👍

It's really hard to tell people how to deal with pain! You have to accept a certain level of discomfort, most people experience some at first, very commonly in the lower legs and feet. This will improve as you get stronger (and lose some weight).

The best thing, probably, is to think about how much discomfort is acceptable to you, weighed up against how much you want to proceed with the exercise. And make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes!

As a note of caution you also have to be able to decide for yourself if it gets too much and you need to stop, and perhaps seek medical help and/or physiotherapy. This is not where you are now though, and I really urge you to carry on gently building up your strength and fitness.

Good luck and have fun! :)

Hi @SanjuP

Welcome! Glad to know you’re working up to running! Regarding sports bras, believe it or not M&S do a good range and you can get properly fitted. Not all the branches stock their full range but large stores do.

I posted this about calf strength: healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it’s a recognised programme but I must add the caveat that if you get specific problems, see your GP... the lovely Mentors will advise, I’m sure: @Iannodatruffe ?

Have fun!

Hi . The only sports bra I have found that will stop the ‘bounce’ is shock absorber ultimate. They come up a little small for size. I’m dd/e and bought an f. Bit awkward to get on but comfy and doesn’t move.

I’ve had Shock Absorbers in the past but I’ve discovered Victoria’s Secret sports bras! What a revelation! I’m usually a 32f, the VS sizes are weird so in theirs I’m a 32DDD they’re amazing! These babies don’t bounce one bit! Comfy, incredible! They are a bit more than I’d normally spend £45 I think, but they often have good deals! Good luck and 👍🏻!
