Hot twitchy legs

I’m in week four of couch to 5k excercise routine and I’m not sleeping because of my legs. When I get into bed at night they become so twitchy and feel like they’re on fire. In fact my whole body temperature feels so much hotter. I thought they would settle down but week four now and they are still bad. I do my excercise in the morning so they have all day to settle down before bedtime. It’s such a shame because I am enjoying the exercise but not sure I can put up with lack of sleep and being so hot and uncomfortable. Any tips please?

There is quite a lot of info on this...and a cause can be exercise..have you had this before?

At this stage, over-training would not be a reason..but are you trying too hard, running too quickly? Are your really well hydrated...? We are not medical experts, so, it this is becoming a real problem maybe get it checked out?

Can only say what I do and not a medical expert. Always see your doctor if worried or getting worse.

I get this and thought it may be to do with muscles repairing/increased metabolism, blood flow to legs. I have bedroom temp lower now and often sleep with legs out of duvet. I take ibuprofen and seem to settle better.

Maybe you need an extra rest day between runs.

Take off the headphones when you go to bed. Or if you must keep them on switch from the disco to something slower.

I got this! I called it “electric legs”. If felt like being wired up to the mains at times. Always at night in bed

My husband said it was proof positive that my legs were changing. Sitting up and taking notice

It soon stopped and I was fine

If it bothers you or doesn’t go away, maybe get it checked out

Thanks for this, hopefully mine will stop soon. Before running I walked 5/6 miles on the days I didn’t play golf, so not as though my legs aren’t used to a bit of activity!

I got this too - rest of me was absolutely exhausted and ached, but at nighttime my legs were having a party of their own!

In my case, I think it really was due to sudden increased exercise beyond the school walk, though. And now, by week 8, the rest of me is not quite so tired each time, so its like the two halves are more in sync with each other...
