Sleep problems

StartedC25k five weeks ago and as far as running goes, all is progressing well. However, for the last two weeks I have slept so badly, I can only think that it has to do with the running. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

When are you running? May be that you are getting too much of a high if you are running in the evening to get to sleep? I'm a chronic insomniac, but since running in the morning, I am able to get to sleep earlier.

Yes! Ive been getting to sleep but waking too early after a restless night. It’s been exhausting. Im two runs into week three now and finally seem better rested. Still waking before 6 but not in the night.

Could it be the clock change?

Also make sure you're doing things like re-hydrating, stretching, and giving yourself enough rest. I don't fall asleep easily on the nights I have evening activities (but that's the only time I can Zumba, so it's not changing!) but so long as I cut off exercise (aside from stretching) about 3 hours before bedtime, I'm good. I also decreased the amount of caffeine I take in daily somewhere around Week 2 - no more than 3 cups per day (two of tea, one of coffee), and all of that finished by 5; for me that combined with my increased activity has improved sleep.

Running in the evening can easily change your body chemistry too much for good sleep.

I have never been good at getting a full night's sleep and hoped that starting to run would improve my sleep patterns, as some report, but unfortunately it has made no difference.

We are all different.

I have problems sleeping - overall the running is improving that because I feel better in myself and more relaxed.

However, there was an occasion when I couldn't fit in a run until about 9.20pm. Off I went with determined "I refuse to miss my run" thoughts. I had a great run - empty streets, soft mizzly rain, but oh dear- I was absolutely "pinging" well into the wee small hours! So no more late evening runs for me! ☺️
