W9R3 Completed!!!

Completed my final run this morning, legs felt a bit heavy but otherwise a good run.

Thank you to everyone that has encouraged & helped me to complete the course. I can still remember trying to run for 5 mins but could not. I thought I had failed (sorry for f word) but you all told me to slow down and repeat the week again, I think it was week 4 that the 5 minute runs started. That did the trick and now I can run 30 mins without thinking.

What next for me?? Well I cannot run the full 5K so I will carry on running 3 x 30 mins every week. Once I feel that I can run for longer than I will up the time a bit to say 35 mins and gradually increase the time & distance.

One other thing that this programme has improved for me is Walking. I use to walk regularly in town from one end to the other to a certain shop. I have always been a fast walker and my wife hated going into town with me as she was nearly always running to keep up. Gradually over time due to age I became slower, more tired and out of breath. This was all due to me trying walk as fast as I used to, I could not and it depressed me.

Now if I go into town I am almost running, I have never walked so fast and it feels like I am walking on air. I am sure shoppers think I am mad weaving in & out of them but I cannot help it and it feels good really good.

Running faster is an option but if I can run faster but not complete the distance than I have achieved little really. As you all have told other members speed will come naturally. What happens after I can run 5K comfortably? Well I think I will get to that point first. Thank you all again

Congratulations on your graduation, fellow runner.

The norm for chasing a distance is to make one run per week your long run and keep the other two at 30 minutes or 5k. Only increase that long run by s maximum of 10% of your weekly total mileage........the 10% rule.

For the next few weeks just consolidate where you are, maybe running some exciting new routes and just enjoying you new found ability.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Congratulations!
