When I started C25k I signed up to the British Legion Poppy run on the Knavemire York on Saturday 4th November which was yesterday.
I have not qualified yet as on Wk9r2. I have done all my training in the gym and ran on treadmill. Last week I did 5k on the treadmill in 37 minutes
Was a bit nervous yesterday as first organised run , but optimistic.
Started the run and got about 8 minutes in and was struggling for breath, legs tired. Walked for a bit then the section over rough grass nearly killed me . The rest of it was done in short runs and walks and in end it was roughly 46 ☹️minutes (which I was disappointed with). Never managed anywhere near a continues 30 minutes run. I was looking forward to Parkruns over this winter, but no sure now if I want to do anymore after that. Don’t understand why I found it so difficult.☹️

Ahhhh that will be because it’s your first run outside. On a treadmill you set the pace etc and then the machine maintains for you. Outside you need to pace yourself. Plus you are on different terrain, (various by the sounds), inclines or hills (up and down) are outside your control. Also if you haven’t run with others before you can get pulled along too fast due to sheer enthusiasm.
Please don’t give up. Why not start one run a week outside, just go steady , and build from there. You have some running legs now so it will all come together.
Outside running is great once you know what to expect from it.
I had the same problem as you - running outside is soooo different to running on the treadmill. I have joined my local running club and started C25k again with them running outside. I am hoping to graduate for the second time this week doing it all outdoors. Don't be put off but just accept that it takes a while to adapt to outdoor running. I have now got to the point where I can do 30 minutes continuously outdoors but it has taken me 6 weeks to get to that point. Parkrun will be a good motivator for you but accept that it may take a few weeks before you can run it continuously. Also I have found that my speed needs to be even slower outside than on the treadmill, the uneven ground, wind etc have a surprising effect. You will get there - if I can then anyone can. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
