When training for your 5k do you prefer treadmill or outdoor running? Thanks!

Training
Me am an outdoor girl....
Outdoors for me, I like to see and hear the world.
Outdoors for me! But lots of people do run on a treadmill👍🏼😀
The great outdoors for me...in the rain preferably
Outdoors for me too, get bored on a treadmill, watching MTV in a gym ... yawn....love the fresh air and wind in my hair lol 😂
Lol...I had it swirling round my head today...leaves & everything, thank god the conkers are mostly on the floor now!!! 🤔😝
True mummycav ...I love to run through the woods dodging the falling chestnuts 🌰... in my head I am in the opening scene of a movie... dodging bullets... sprinting to save the love of my life... a giant hot chocolate with extra whipped cream and marshmallows
Outdoors every time, there's nothing to look at on a treadmill, time goes on and one and there's always some smarts...e on the next one who runs faster, harder, longer, I just want to hit their stop button and tell them to stop being such a show off!
Thanks all for your input!
One more question...outside do you incorporate hills or mainly flat runs?
Ohhhh...no hills for me yet...I haven’t done a hill since I started this & I have no plans to yet...but if I carry on like I did today I can see hills on the horizon!!
Outside
Both...mainly outside which I love bitnif time is at a premium then I use my treadmill...boring but gets the job done!
outside for me and on a very very flat old railway line. My plan is to complete this and then start the programme again from week 1 on a very steep track leading off the railway line to conquer running up hills!
Good plan!
I'm doing mine at the gym on the treadmill. I've got 1 run left from week 4 but I must admit I do find it insanely boring on the treadmill but I have a gym membership and like to mix things up and also do a few weights. I do want to try and get outside but I may do that when I graduate 😊.
I do both . I've a treadmill at home so if I'm struggling with time due to childcare I hop in it . If I have time tho I'll run outdoors around a local lake . TBH I find the treadmill easier but enjoy. Outdoor more
I started running on a treadmill. The problem I found is that u can cheat by holding on so although u can do the miles you can do a lot by cheating. It's easier to run holding on! I prefer running outdoors but still run on a treadmill without cheating when its raining.
Hi Colo5,
Having done both there in this programme I feel that I like both both for different reasons.
The treadmill regulates your pace so I found it better for the longer runs but I found it very boring.
I love running outside and seeing the changing seasons, weather and wildlife but I struggle at the moment to get my pace right early in the run so I'm struggling towards the end of the run.
I suppose if I had to choose one it would be outside running.😁🏃
I've been doing quite a bit on the treadmill recently, on advice of my physio, after I put my back out and endured several weeks of pain and non-running frustration. The treadmill is a softer surface than the pavement, so less likely to aggravate the back.
In many ways it is inferior - don't get the benefit of outdoors, changing scenery etc. But there are compensations. First, in my gym, the treadmills are in front of a mirror, so you can watch yourself running, and correct posture etc. Secondly, you can know at all times exactly what pace you are doing, and can test yourself to see how long you can keep going faster. Also (on the ones in my gym) you can keep an eye on your heart rate.
So I think it's a pretty good training device. I am cautiously re-introducing outdoors running as well. Am doing a fast pass through C25K, and am about to re-do the infamous Week 5 Run 3 on the treadmill. Definitely one for a "slow and steady approach" I think!
That's great you are back at running! First part of my training was outside but just recently switched to the treadmill. It's been helpful to see my pace increase, I'm still on the slower end but it gets the job done!
I'm set to do W8/R3, never thought I could be a runner but guess it's happening, love this program!
My 5K event is on the 21st called The Waldo Waldo, supports trail restoration. This year my goal is to run the whole thing without stopping!
Keep up the good work and thanks for your input!
