Blindfold Training

Blindfold Training

You may have already read that Fazzical has now graduated but thought I'd update you all with my progress too. I'm slowly getting faster, I can now manage 5k in 37 minutes so that elusive 30 mins is starting to feel achievable. I've conquered the hurdle of running in the dark - I bought one of the chest lamps mentioned on here somewhere and can't recommend it enough. I hated the idea of a headlamp so it's perfect and gives really good vision too. Although it wasn't properly charged when I went out on Monday and a tree root leapt out of the gloom and sent me sprawling 😑😑. No real damage done - just a bit bruised not least to my ego but the big bonus of running in the dark - no one saw me trip πŸ˜€

Fazzical and I went to training session by the RLSB a couple of weeks ago, photo kindly taken by them outside the Olympic velodrome. It was really inspiring and we had a go at blindfold cricket too which was great fun. There is a photo of that on our fundraising page too at Assuming I've pasted the link properly! I've just read Ullyrunner 's post about the fog and was reminded of Dave's comments at training, he's the one in the blindfold! , as soon as the blindfold went on he felt as if his hearing was amplified. I guess the fog has a similar effect.

We know we can both achieve the full 5k on 6th November but don't expect to run all the way , we've found it more tiring than normal running. It's a really good experience though. We also need our 5 minute warm up walk so will start with that to find our stride and hopefully then run all the way to the finish line πŸ˜€ Looking out for you too McFitty πŸ˜€

We've just had our final outing of the year in our little tin tent too. We took it to Rendlesham Forest and this time actually went running together, well I followed fazzicals back - his legs are longer than mine !

I really must buy a new fleece - I used to fill that grey thing πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Happy running everyone!

  • Good to hear from you OP and that all is going well. How nice for you and Fazzical to be able to visit and explore new areas together through your running. Not that he'll get to see much on the blindfold run!

  • He won't see much but will have to do as he is told for a change - and I will be in front setting the pace this time πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Thank you for your generosity in donating today. And please tell your daughter in law we found the taster session inspiring as well as fun - it was worth the trip to London.

  • Woo you're getting speedy missis! What a fabulous picture too. Have your t-shirts arrived yet? Ours arrived the other day and they fit...hurrah! Think I might be even more pirate-like in my running after a couple of weeks on the IC but I'm so looking forward to it. I'll be looking out for you :)

  • T shirts arrived while we were away. Mines generous but ok! We have 2 new recruits in our team too - my nephew & girlfriend are signed up as well now πŸ˜€

  • What a great pic, and that sounds very interesting.... good luck on the 5k... i hope your 'pet' behaves!!!!

  • Well done, I am so impressed by both your progress and the blind running. Brilliant pair of leggings, too πŸ˜‰

  • I'm going to try increasing my distance now I think 😱 Oh no I said it out loud !!The leggings are from the Lidl haul a while back - excellent value and I'm pretty sure I spotted Naga Munchetty wearing a pair on Strictly Come Dancing πŸ˜€

  • I have a pair myself!

  • You are both looking fab. Glad you enjoyed the training. Looking forward to your run report of the big day.

Great progress with the time and 'ouch' for the trip. You look well snuggled in the fleece!

  • I admire you both, must be difficult running together. All the very best for the race :)

  • Running together is quite a loose term - he always gets in front but I will be in the driving seat for the blindfold run πŸ˜€

  • Nice to read your report. And the update about your mum. Well done, all of you
