I'm new and have a lung condition, I attempted my first park run last Saturday, but I walked most of it. Any advice please.

Hello and welcome!

First of all check with your clinical team that running is an ok activity for you.

Then, download the podcast or app and work through this marvellous programme!

To go run a full parkrun without training is asking a lot of your body, unless you already exercise regularly and have a good fitness level.

Read lots of past posts on this forum, come back and tell us how you are doing regularly. Forum friends will support, encourage and celebrate with you on your journey!

Hi, I have asthma and my lung capacity is rubbish but running is helping to improve it.

Did you attempt the park run without building up to it first? Just take it slowly. The couch to 5k apps are great and will build you up week by week.

Don’t give up. I don’t think it matters if you walk, any exercise is good 😊

Many people do brisk walking for a few weeks before starting C25k. It is amazing how quickly our bodies adapt to doing regular exercise.

C25k itself starts off very gently with only 60 second runs and then 90 second walking intervals. If you have a go at the first week, you will be able to gauge how you can cope. many find that first week the hardest and then go onto graduate the programme. repeat any run you don't complete, then move on.

The run required of you is only a very gentle jog and the programme is duration based with no regard for speed or distance covered. So long as your doctor approves, this is the perfect route into running for you and you will get to run parkrun.

Good luck.

I wouldn't attempt a park run without first having learned to run! C25k is a fab learn to run programme 🙂👍✔️

Anyone would struggle to do a Parkrun without running experience, asthma or not 😱 I'm not surprised you struggled

Walking is a great way to get fitter by the way. Walking on non run days is a good idea. I think everyone should walk more. It's free and good for us 😃

Good luck 💪👍
