I 'completed' W1 R1 today. I struggled. I'd be lying if I said I didn't walk the last 5minutes. Having never run before and left many years between any sort of other physical training, I knew it would be tough. I'm going to do this for me though. I have a 7yr old, 4yr old and an almost 2yr old. I have to sort my fitness levels out if I want to be the mum I want to be for them.

I'm here for encouragement and to offer whatever support I can to anyone else in my boat.

P.S. couldn't the first week have been 10 or 15mins rather than 20??? Lol

Congratulations on starting C25K with run 1 of week 1, welcome to the forum and C25K, you can take all the runs slowly, as you are a complete beginner you can run just for 30 seconds gradually increasing the duration to 60 seconds and repeat any runs or week's if you wish to. I wish you luck for your running journey with C25K, keep in touch with this forum regularly reporting on how you are progressing. 😊 🏃🏾

Hi! :) the beauty of this programme is you can take it at your pace as not everyone is the same! Are you running too fast as it does say just a light jog so you may be going too fast and exhausting yourself?

I’ve almost finished the programme now (on week 8) and when I first did my W1 R1 I spent the whole time thinking I was going to be sick and couldn’t possibly do the programme! But here I am 8 weeks later running for 28 minutes at a time! :) you’ll get there you’ve just got to make sure you keep your pace as steady and slow as you need and work it up! I have faith in you, because if I can do it (majorly unfit never been able to run, walked the whole of cross country at school and even lost sleep about it in the lead up haha) then so can you! Good luck!! 🍀

Hi Samia, I am the same as you and did my first run today. I found it really hard, I felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest! Towards the end as I was having to walk for a few seconds during the running. My face was as red as a tomato when I got home. Probably didn’t help that it was warm this morning. Am hoping it gets a bit easier over time. Am really unfit so not holding out much hope.

It does get easier. I really struggled with week 1. Face bursting and struggling to breathe but now I'm on week 4 and can run for 5 minutes and still breathe! Amazing!

You’ve taken a huge step just starting the programme. I’m pretty new too - just started Week 3 - and hadn’t really exercised since school, 30+ years ago. Just take it slowly. I was given some good advice about my mindset and I’m trying to keep the negative thoughts away. All the best.

I struggled with week one as well. I repeated it and it definitely helped.

I have just done week 1 run 1 and am exhausted. I also live in a very hilly place so my walk home was agonising! I think I will drive somewhere flatter for run 2!!

Definitely a flat surface would make it easier. I did W5 R2 this morning and am shocked I can go on for 8mins, albeit at snail pace, without stopping.

Chin up and put one foot in front of the other. Take it reallllyyyyy slow, as slow as you could possibly go at the start. That's how I've managed to complete the runs.

Dreading the 20min non stop day after tomorrow as 8mins was a struggle today.

Thanks for the tips. I was really self conscious but I feel like I am starting something good. I want to improve my lung capacity as apparently it is good for singing.
