Hi All. I am new here just joined today. I haven't started running yet - downloaded couch25K app but what with weather & work commitments haven't got round to it. I was a regular gym goer until about a year ago when I started getting crippling exercise induced migraines. My GP told me to stop exercising (mainly running which I love) whilst undergoing investigations. Following neurologist appointments and an MRI I have been given the all clear & migraines put down to menopause (great!). I'm on beta blockers for it & desperately want to go back to the gym. I thought the couch25k app would be a good place to start slowly as I only know how to go "full dark no stars" I have no clue how to start gradually & build back up to where I was a year ago. Assuming I can use this app on a treadmill, I really do prefer the gym to Road running. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome and enjoy!

I get menopause migraines too but not often and exercise really does help. I absolutely HATE treadmills. I absolutely LOVE air, so the park is my running venue of choice.

This app is awesome!

This programme will definitely help you get back to it! And yes, many people here complete it on a treadmill. :)

Weather and work commitments? As my daughter says to me 'I think I hear the clanging sound of excuses.' Only teasing because I sat on the app for a few weeks before starting too! Just do it. Only 30 mins. Hope the beta blockers are helping with the migraines. Yet another bit of menopause bulls**t to deal with eh?

Ha ha! Yes indeed. Honestly I am desperate to get back to it but I really have to be honest with myself & I really do prefer the gym. I have to do something I enjoy otherwise I just won't do it & I want to get a clear run at this app - no pun intended! So I'm waiting until after the Easter break.

Hi WW - fellow menopausal migraine sufferer here - if the crappy hot flushes weren’t enough add in the pounding of a head fit to explode! Of course you can do this on the treadmill if that’s your preference - the app gradually builds you up and if you look also at the guidance in the faqs you can do some cross-training for core strength too.

The big thing my GP suggested which does seem to work for me is the old runner’s adage of drinking water today for running tomorrow. And good hydration can never hurt at all.

Good luck on the treadmill and hope you find it enjoyable

Thank you! Yes I always try to drink loads of water but I never thought about that- hydrate today for tomorrow's run. It's good advice.

Ps- yes hot flushes & night sweats are great!

Yes I love them - who’d have thought getting hot could be such fun .... Sleeping on the floor I can highly recommend! :0

This app helps a lot of people to start gradually and get to places they've never been before!

For you this will be a gentle ease back into the old ways rather than the series of Everest-like achievements it was for the rest of us. As a former gym bunny you'll probably find it all a bit lightweight at first but I would just advise that you be patient and follow the programme (no skipping) and before you know it you'll be back where you belong.

Ah - thank you! That's so kind. I wasn't that fit! TBH I have done a little bit of walking/running round the park - mainly walking but I was surprised at how unfit I've become in such a short space of time. I've also put on half a stone. Makes you realise how good exercise is for you.
