I've noticed a bit of a theme here. There's more than a sprinkling of middle aged sort myself out while I still can born again runners. Or is that just me?
The natural consequence of that of course is an unhealthy outbreak of big hair and padded shoulders and the Duran spandau human league sound track that goes with it.
So swapsies please. Here's my running playlist please tell me yours.
Viva la Vida - Coldplay
Going underground - The Jam
London Calling - The Clash
Remembrance Day - B Movie
Your Woman - White Town
Summer Wine - Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood
Tainted Love - Soft Cell

Now I have to confess some of these are rubbish to run to. But hey ho.
Week 7 run 1 in the bag today plus an extra 3 mins cause I felt like it and was more than a 5 min walk from home.
I love this!

Ah, thanks Tom, you're welcome. I love a mixture of all sorts. Some of the symphonic metal have a good beat for running too and I like trance aswell. Anything with a good beat works for me, lol.
You have great taste. Love all those tracks though my fave Simple Minds track is Alive and Kicking which carried me over the line tonight on W8 R1. So reminds me of the inauguration of the Premier League in 1992 and the gorgeous Tim Sherwood representing Blackburn Rovers in the advertisement. The 90s weren't bad either π Let's not mention Venky's or League 1 thanks π
Haha yes I did say my list was all over the placeπ. I do remember mix tapes. And spending hours to get just the right playlists setup only to have my tape deck in my old VW Rabbit eat them alive π
Yeah I've had to pull more than a few tunes out because I just couldn't run to them. Now i find myself tapping to a sing I know i can run to when I am testing new ones. I call it the "tap test" Very original, I know.
Got some great ideas from this thanks! A lot of music I like doesn't lend itself well to running, I like sort of fast paced stuff to keep me moving as I used to run in sync with the beat, but not so much now. Current list looks like this:
Coldplay - Adventure of a Lifetime
Sia - Titanium
ELO - Mr Blue Sky
Pink - U and Ur Hand
Jesse Glynn - No Place I'd rather be
Killers - Mr Brightside
Katy Perry - Firework
Blondie - Picture This
Blondie - Hanging on the Telephone
Pink - Just like a Pill
Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop the Feeling (won't catch me singing the high bits, oh no...)
I can't for the life of me listen to different people on the same run. I decide minutes before, based on the mood, weather, whatever, which artist I will play and stick with them for the entire spin. And most of the time they are guys who you can't sing along to, let alone stay in groove with No wonder I run like a marionette.
Ooo, this has got me thinking now, am already updating my list to include some Then Jericho - proper 80s! Maybe some Big Country (not so keen but I'll give it a go), Wonderstuff, defo some Bronski Beat too. Can't wait to get back out there!
Am so enthused with my new playlist, I've just been listening to it out loud - how very dare I?!! My 13 year old daughter has just grunted her disgust and left the room..... oh well!!!
List is way too big but recent purchases for which I am wholeheartedly naming and shaming antet and Razouski , as they share theirs with me.
Uptown Funk - Ronson and Mars
Marvin Gaye - Pugh and Trainor
Cake by the Ocean - DNCE
Can't Stop The Feeling - Justin Timberlake
Oh Woman Oh Man - London Grammar
Strong - London Grammar
Get Dancin - Disco Tex and His Sex -O -Lettes
Lose Yourself -Eminem
Sign of the Times - Harry Styles
I won't let the sun go down on me - Nik Kershaw
It's Raining Men - The Weather Girls
Boombastic - Shaggy
This Girl - Kungs
Temptation - Heaven 17
Night Fever - Bee Gees
Next to download
Ra Ra Rasputin Boney M
Cult - She Sells Sanctuary
And anything by gorgeous Jim Kerr and Simple Minds. But I limit myself to one new download per run completed and Sunday is buying day!
Liking the new download choices π I've got Rasputin ready to go but have been struck down with a rotten cold so haven't been able to try it out yet.
Ra ra rotten cold instead, well it's better not to run when you're under the weather. I'm out tomorrow for a 7k ish run, depending on how the inaugural Neighbourhood Watch welcome dinner goes tonight! Got to love Italian hospitality...
Keep warm and rest and see you out there sometime next week hopefully...
I don't usually run to music as I run with a friend - but the other week she wasn't available so I set off with my "singalong" playlist, composed of mostly 70s/80s classics. I found Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd really good to run along to, and so was Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin (except the beginning bit), I think Mr Blue Sky was a good one too. Oh and Let's Go Crazy by Prince. Maybe I need to work out a way that two of us can run together to music, as it did seem to help me keep going!
I played a LOT of these one evening when my teenage nieces visited me. We were playing cards and just chatting away with my stacked record player going in the background.
At one point the three of them couldn't hide their giggling...
" These songs are crazy Uncle John" said one of them.
I was a bit afronted and replied
"Are you kidding me? This is music from when music was REAL music - not that half-spitting, mewling, electro-garbage assaults on the Timpani membrane you lot call 'music'. We used to dance to this all night long!"
They sat in stunned silence for a moment.
Then...
Screams of laughter and howls of "You DANCED to that!!! NO WAY UNCLE JOHN!!!!"
Nothing ever makes you feel older than the sheer disbelief your nieces evince that you ever actually danced and to THAT music! Lol.
