I love reading, so when I got into running, the next natural step was to read as many running books as I could get my hands on! I have read some instructional books, but mostly delve into memoirs. I find it keeps me motivated me and inspires me. I have lots of good ones to recommend, so will add some more each Friday, along with other recommendations!
I loved The Pants of Perspective SO MUCH. It is Anna McNuff's story of how she ran the length of New Zealand. It took her 148 days, and she ran an average of 52km per day. All that with no support and carrying all her own supplies. It is an awe-inspiring, and at times, very funny read. Now, this is not something that I aspire to do! But, it was so well written, and such an uplifting read, I think anyone, whatever your aspirations, would enjoy this book. Anna is a truly adventurous woman (she also ran the equivalent of 90 marathons, back to back, barefoot across Britain!)
For me, every run, however short, is an adventure! Happy running, everyone.

Great recommendation, I've not read it but have heard a number of interviews with her on various podcasts and can only imagine her book is a great read! It's the whole bare foot thing, I am physically wincing when I hear her talk about it! Amazing lady.
😁 The book will be of interest to anyone who loves running and adventure, regardless of gender. The language in it is quite straightforward, so I think men will be able to cope. 😂😂 (Sorry, couldn’t resist...!)
I am doing great thanks, Stephen! Was out for a bit with a dicky back, but all well now and out and about running like a mad fool again. 😁 How are you, dear?
I hope you like the book, if you decide to read it. I couldn’t put it down. More recommendations to come...some books, with a few random other things thrown in!
Ouch. Sorry to hear about the back trouble and hope you are fully recovered. I am OK, thanks: still training for a HM that will most likely be cancelled!
Aw, thanks Granspeed. Not sure they are important enough to get pinned, but if you “follow” me, you should get email notification every time I pop a new one up. x
Oh you’ve read and enjoyed it missw! 👍 Intrepid with a dash of foolhardy, but I like her style. 😁 I follow her on Instagram, and although not a big fan of tattoos personally, just seen that she’s just had the most beautiful tattoo of autumn leaves on her back. It’s stunning.
Thanks, this is interesting. I bought a few issues of Runners World, but have now progressed to looking at books, and bought “Your Pace or Mine” by Lisa Jackson earlier this week from Amazon. Looking forward to seeing more recommendations 👍😁
Oh! Sadie thank you this is such a great idea. I’ve given up on trying to find running books over here and console myself with listening to podcasts instead, one of which is Dirt Church Radio, interviewing interesting runners, which is brilliant, but there’s nothing like a real book. Going to order that one online. 👍
Ooo, thank you for the recommend Sadie-runs ...I’m going to order it right away!!! I’ve got a book called ‘Your pace or mine’ by Lisa Jackson...that’s a good read too xx
