Eeek I've just been asked to run in the Manchester 10k in May next year - have never run before and am more used to the treadmill in the gym on the rare occasions I make myself go. Not overly fit and do need to lose weight so thought I'd start tomorrow with the Cto5k programme. Is it an achievable goal to run 10k by May or am I setting myself up to fail!
Any advice welcome
Thanks

If you set your mind to it, then yes, you can achieve it. You’ll need to be very committed though, and not question your ability. It’s amazing how keeping focused on your end goal will keep you on track. Once you start doubting your abilities then that’s when you’re likely to give up. When I started out I managed to injure my knee and then an ankle. The physio said that he felt there should be pre-C25K programme to build up our core strength first, so we don’t get so many injuries. Perhaps you should think about that as well. I’ve changed my diet, upped my exercise levels, and started running, and feel a million times better (and 3 stone lighter!). It’s a great programme and so doable! Good luck, and yes, you CAN do it!
Ah I'll hold you to that - if I can do that it will be a bottle of champagne - I am determined though - thanks for the vote of confidence. I have my running shoes all ready to start tomorrow!
