W6R1 and a little bit more.

This morning I decided to to my W6R1 at my local Parkrun. I thought that I could just do a longer cool down walk at the end to complete the course.

I did the 5 minute warm up before the start so that I could at least start running! When I got to the end of the first run I was feeling quite good so decided to keep on running. Anyway, despite being overtaken by a heavily pregnant lady, several dogs and a guy pushing two toddlers in a double buggy, I ran the whole 5K in around 36 minutes and there were plenty of people behind me!

I am determined to complete the C25K course and hopefully next time I do the Parkrun I will overtake the buggies.

Feeling great!!!!!

Well done, this is very early to be running 5k and in that time too. Just be a little cautious, because you've zoomed to W9 from actually being on W6. Others will have far more cautionary tales than me, but you don't want to end up on the injury couch before you graduate the programme, so please take it nice and easy next time out.

I would echo what Hidden has said. It's great that you can run that far, but do take care as upping your running distance too soon could lead to problems. I had trouble with my achilles tendon when I started doing longer distances too quickly and I regret it as it put me on the IC for sometime and I now have a weakness in both that I have to be careful of.

But well done for getting so far in the programme.

Happy and injury free running. :-)

Thank you both for your concerns and advice. I really did not intend to run the whole 5k when I started and would certainly have stopped if I felt any twinges. However, although I have never been much of a runner, before I started the C25K programme I regularly power walked 10k two or three times a week so I probably have a higher level of fitness than some people at week 6. I do still find the running hard work though so am determined to complete the course and hope that it will get easier by the time I graduate!
