I've been really chuffed with myself to date. I'm overweight and never ran before even at school if I could help it. So this hasn't been easy for me. Ev en did the dreaded 20 minute last week. Then today, I couldn't manage the second 10 minute run! What's going on, I'm gutted 😕
W6 run2 nearly killed me: I've been really... - Couch to 5K
W6 run2 nearly killed me
Jc, someone told me on here you only fail if you get back on the couch. I am W4 and can hardly manage 5 mins so you are able to do twice as much as me! Keep on. You are doing my this for you. Well done for posting and giving me hope I can get to run for 10 mins which feels a milestone and unattainable to me right now
Good morning.
It nearly but it didn't. We all know that feeling but you know what..... (if at 1st you don't succeed, try again).
You're further into the progress than me & seem to be doing very well. Whatever you do, don't sit back on that couch. We can all have a off day, a day where things don't go right. Brush it off & try again.
You can and will do this. Tomorrow is another day as they say.
I wish you luck.x
Hi JC this week is a feisty little sucker, and the return to intervals for whatever reason seems to catch a few of us out.
A couple of things to consider, as you roll through the programme cumulatively the impact on your body ramps up, so take an extra days' rest if you need it. Also I found that as I got fitter I started my run sequences just that bit faster -and then as a consequence I too got puffed out. So I consciously started slowing down my pace when I felt my breathing was out of control.
Oldfloss is an advocate of slow and steady - all to find your happy pace - this gets increasingly more important as you progress.
And please don't be gutted, thsi was a run in which you learned something about your pace, you put more kms in the bank and some stamina too. Write this one down as a practice run and go out next time a little slower and steadier and you will be fine.
Slow down... and then slow down more.... are you keeping up with core strength and stamina exercises on rest days... we need to help our bodies keep up with our legs... especially when the runs get longer
Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement, I'm not going to give up I'll have a 2 day break then on it Sunday 💪🏻
Reading your post was like reading my own. I'm on week 7 now and I had a terrible run on Thursday. After giving myself a good talking to and taking all the good advice on board I set off again this morning. I ran for the whole 25 minutes, it was hard work probably the hardest yet but I did it. You will too, Good Luck!!!
How did you get on Jchann?
I said I would keep you up to date so here goes. Week 7 run 2 yesterday failed miserably!!! I got up this morning and thought you are NOT going to beat me. Took everyone's advice including one post in particular and spent the whole run saying to myself "slow down, slow down" and I managed to complete week 7, run 2. However I have decided I'm going to do week 7 again. I need to crack this before I move on.
Week 8 is more or less just like week seven so I don't personally see the need to repeat at all :-). Week 7 was one of my toughest weeks, here are my highlight solutions: 1) slow of course; 2) extra rest day so that you really feel rested; 3) change route/playlist/something because with the toughness and the sameness it's hard to stay motivated. Week 7 is when I started my zombie app and I'm glad I did. Repeating week 7 would have gutted me. Get it out of the way and on towards the PODIUM OF GLADNESS!
Thank you for your advice. I have had to redo run 1 and 2 because I really struggled on the first attempt. I thought I'd have another go at week 7, the idea of running an extra 3 minutes at the moment seems unachievable. Maybe I will have a go at week 8 run 1 first and then go back to week 7 if I need to. After all I barely managed to run for 1 minute 7 weeks ago!!!
Ejvcruns, I followed your advice and had a go at week 8. I ran slow and steady and I smashed it!!!!! I could have probably run a bit longer. So thank you for your encouragement.
