I'm currently just starting the C25k programme but thought I would start incorporating a 5km walk in addition to my normal one hour long walk in the park with my dog, on days when I'm not running. That way by the time I'm confident enough to run outdoors I will be familiar with the route. Does anyone have any recommendations for apps that have proven to be useful for planning routes? Ideally I want one that works for running and walking.

If you are looking to plan route then gb.mapometer.com/ should be a useful tool. However, if you want your progress tracked as you go on your journey then strava.com/ does a decent job.
I just use Google maps and the distance tool, not 100% accurate but close enough.
mapometer Uk is quite useful as Whatsapp says..Map my run ...also...
Magic.gov.uk is an amazing mapping website with a vast range of map styles and overlays. There are large scale Ordnance Survey maps available along with drawing tools which enable you to mark and measure a route with a great degree of accuracy.
Maybe not as intuitive as some, but worth playing with.
I have to mention Maverick, an app available on Android or IOS, which is a tracking tool but which lets you have free access to OS Landranger maps offline while running or walking........my number one app.
I give a big thumbs up to mapometer too.
Also mapmyrun.com which shows you popular routes in your area,
goodrunguide.co.uk/RoutePla... is similar to mapometer
Thanks for your recommendations.
