Runnings taken a back seat lately, slinky unwell!๐Ÿ˜ž

Yes, runs have gone down a bit lately for me, am lucky to get out for a 5k, what with one thing and another, and my wife slinkylinky as some of you will remember her has become ill again.

We were out walking a few months ago when I noticed her foot dragging slightly, anyway she started lagging behind and eventually her leg gave way with weakness, no pain just gave out! Anyway, possible sciatica event? But no pain! She was still able to go about daily life and working but the dragging remained a problem, so a visit to the doctor's revealed also a weakness in her right arm when tested, so full blood test ordered and was normal, so thyroids working OK, and then last Monday a big shock! a CT scan on the head revealed a brain lesion, so was sent straight into A&E for all tests and 4 days in hospital, there was a swelling on the brain apparently causing the weakness, where a course of steroids have bought down the inflammation, she quickly improved while in hospital and the weakness has improved a lot, no dragging foot! We had a walk down to the local shops yesterday and was good. But has been a very anxious time.

An MRI scan has revealed a meningioma, a benign tumour on her left side of the brain, and is now waiting for her first appointment with a neurologist at St George's hospital to see what the next steps are, wether it's a wait and see and can be managed or if she will need surgery. So, she remains on the IC so to speak, taking it easy until further notice from the specialist.

Seems that these slow growing brain tumours cause fatigue, tired and heaviness, which she found a lot in general and especially when trying to get back into running after the last episode a year ago, anyway, she remains positive, and I'll keep her motivated with some easy walks for now..no running!๐Ÿ˜ž

I'm wondering if I could do the Croydon 10k on 8th October?did it last year, but this year my nephew is doing it, so would like to start the run with him, think I'll have to get at least a few more 5k runs in starting this week and maybe have a few 30 sec walk breaks on the actual 10k run..will see how things go over the next couple of weeks..๐Ÿ˜Š

Big hugs being sent to you both, your going through the mill right now, I really hope things pick up for you soon โค๏ธ. My thoughts on the Croydon run is, you are a seasoned enough runner to play it by ear on the day. Adopt a run/ walk mentality and go and let your hair down with a 10km run, I think what you will get back from it will compensate for a little tiredness afterwards.

Take care both of you

Rfc x.

Oh crikey! So sorry to hear that Slinky is not very well ๐Ÿ™ It must be a worrying time for you both but reassuring that they know what the trouble is. I hope they can get it sorted out soon

I would do the race Dave! It will be fun and a chance to let rip and give the cylinders a blast ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿƒ

Huge hugs to both of you! Tumour in the brain is not a nice thing to hear, even if it is "benign". Best wishes!

Sorry to read this Dave. A friend of ours has a benign tumour in his head and he's one of the fittest people I know! In fact we ran a race together this summer.

You should definitely do the 10K. Think of the bling ๐Ÿ™‚

I wish you both all the best and it sounds as if your wife is in good hands.

What a shock for you both Dave, so sorry to hear Slinkylinkey isn't doing so well. I hope things go well for her at St. George's.

Stay strong, and best wishes to you both as you face this together...

Running will help you I think...xx

Thinking of you both in this difficult time. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

If you have to grow anything inside your head then a meningioma is the way to go. They tend to get slowly bigger so ideally should be removed but other options may be better.

The good bit is that full recovery is the norm but I appreciate how stressful this is for both of you.

Fingers crossed for a speedy resolution

So sorry to hear, but hope for the best, and keep running! Sometimes it feels selfish to "put yourself first" but it is the opposite - you need to be in tip-top condition if others are depending on you. And exercise is good for anxiety too. Thinking positive thoughts for you. X

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this. I remember when your lovely lady wasn't well before, and how kind you were to me when I was going through something similar. it's not fair that she should have to deal with something else. You must both be very worried. For your race - when do you have to sign up? If you can join on the day, you can see how you feel then, although I agree with RFC that a run/walk strategy would ensure you get round...

Hugs for you & Slinky

Thanks Cg2,

I think I saw runners signing up on the day last year, so have been thinking about doing that, at the moment am watching out for any blips with slinky, which could disrupt training, it's looking good for me to go this morning though!๐Ÿ˜Š
