The interesting (and re-assuring) thing about this programme is how the slow and steady approach really seems to work. I completed my 11th run last night and can scarcely believe that it was only mid August that I was struggling to even run for a minute. I can easily recall the desperate wish for the final 10seconds to pass,to enable me to walk again.
I've now stopped thinking about the individual minutes (1 min,90 secs etc). Last night I did just over 17 mins, with short breaks in between. The final 5 minute run became 6 minutes 15 secs as I focused on a particular physical landmark (ok-the fence to the tennis courts). I could have carried on, but I'm mindful of Mr Johnson in my ear and,in any event, the ten minute plus runs are just a week or so away. I can do it. Bloody hell.
I also am astonished to find that I'm not "out of puff" at the end. The legs are still bearing the brunt of the discomfort, but that will be remedied when I get round to sorting out some proper running shoes (rather than the current football trainers) at the weekend. And today I'm feeling really good. Will do a 2k walk at lunchtime.
One other thing. I no longer visit the crisp or Biscuit drawer at home. Don't crave sugar or salty crisps. Lots of fruit andyoghurts. And cutting right down on cider too. Have signed up to going sober for October for MacMillan (will link my just giving page if that's appropriate). Might be tested when I go to Pau in mid Oct for a few days (Rugby), but would never have done that before.
