Rain? It's going to rain you say?? Well, it's not raining now that I'm sat in the car is it??!!!

After having twitchy feet all day yesterday wanting to get on with my first run of week 7...even waking up in the night thinking about it...I dropped everyone at school etc & instead of going home I parked in town as I had decided to run on the canal this morning...it was raining but, as some people know, I like running in the rain....

Off I goes on my 5 min walk taking in the scenery, watching the rain making little splashes on the surface of the canal...cute little ducklings waddling along behind their Mummy....after what seemed like 30 seconds Mr Smooth announced it was time to run...so off I went...& so did the rain...the heavens opened...& I mean opened, it was like they had waited for me....after 5 minutes I stopped dead, there was rain running off me from everywhere nose, head, fingers...it was like I was looking underwater I had that much rain in my eyes..."I can't do it in this" I said out loud..."what I doing?" So I turned round & was just about to set off to head back to the car when I suddenly thought "yes, what am I doing....I'm on Week 7, it's rain, I'll dry & if I go home now & it stops I'll be cross with myself" all this took about 10 seconds...so I spun back round and carried on...and on....and on...the halfway bell sounded...so I turned round to do the last 12.5 mins heading back to the car...I'm not joking when I say it was very hard this morning, really hard, I had to pull the strength from my body from everywhere...even my eyebrows hurt!.....By the time Mr Smooth announced I had one minute to go (I hate that coz I always think he's going to go 'YESSSSS')....the rain had stopped & it was clearing up....

Now, I'm sat it the car typing this before I go home & get lost in the ironing pile, I just want to say that some days things come to test us, that rain was coming down in stair rods today when I set off but had cleared up by the time I'd finished so for exactly 25 minutes it was absolutely tipping it down...I could've easily given in, but I didn't...so all of you who are struggling, looking for excuses...or just not in the mood GET YOUR TRAINERS ON AND GET OUT THERE...running is a medicine & a tonic like no other...

Well done. Nothing takes your mind off of clock watching better than the misery of a good drenching. Maybe time to invest in a hat LOL

Lol...we were having a discussion on here about clothing yesterday & said I'm dreading having to wear more clothes & I'd run in a bikini if I didn't think id get arrested, well, I might as well have had one on today coz it would've been ideal...well for me anyway, not for the eye witnesses!!!! But yes, a hat...I'm off for some new clobber today so that will be in my bag!!!

Mummycav well done for keeping going in the rain. I hate running in the rain as it obscures my glasses, and my hat doesn't seem to make a lot of difference. I usually put my run off until it's stopped. I used to opt for running in the gym if it was wet, but I now hate that more than running in the rain. ;-)

Well done you for keeping going, I will take a leaf out of your book next time my scheduled run clashes with a downpour.:-)

icklegui profile image
ickleguiGraduate in reply to Razouski

Someone mentioned some sort of hydrophobic spray you can get for glasses to stop the rain from settling? They mentioned Oakley brand, I think. I haven't managed to get any myself yet to try it out but maybe it will help.

Otherwise we need that spell from Harry Potter that Hermione puts on them before a rainy quidditch match...

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to Razouski

It must much worse if you run in glasses...I just blinked my way through!!!

Fantastic, well done!

I know what you mean about twitchy feet, some days I'm so desperate to get through the rest days so I can (try to) run again! 2/3 of kids back at school today, so I've been doing housework - sometimes I think that counts as a legitimate rest day exercise regime! 😂

Great job ploughing on through the rain...keep at it, you're nearly there!!!

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to Indigogirl

Sometimes I have to remind myself when days are rest day...they're important too...I've a couple of things planned this week now so my next run will be Saturday...and now that I've got my head around it I might do the park run again..we'll see x

Oh poor you, getting such a drenching - but well done on powering through, I am impressed! Very military of you!

I haven't run in the rain yet, mainly because it hasn't rained here since about March with just a few very minor and brief exceptions. However September is generally the thunderstorm month so I imagine it'll happen soon enough... It normally rains at night in Rome though, not often during the day.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to HeleneCorsa

Thank you...Running in the rain is liberating...but when it's bucketing it down it makes for a hard run

Hey my little runner.....well done for fighting the gremlins and carrying on. I actually like running in the rain, for me it's kind of therapeutic, lol. Hope you warmed up in the end, that shiver is yuck after being in the rain. I get it generally after a run when I'm still quite hot, lol. Way to go lovely x

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to quirkybee

Thanks Beth...I do like running in the rain normally but the rain this morning, for 25 mins (?!) was horrendous...I felt really heavy, if that makes sense??? I find it therapeutic though too...x

Splash splash... well done! My mum is always overly worried about rain. She'd be horrified at your running exploits! I'm impressed though 🌧🏃🌧

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to icklegui

Ha ha...it got to the point after about 8 mins I stopped dodging the puddles too so my feet & trainers were soaked...once you're wet, your wet!!!! My Mum would've been horrified this morning too...she'd have come and collected me!!! Lol x

You got out there though...& steady is the best way...I hate cobbles when they're wet so I was a bit scared this morning, especially the sloping cobbles going up & down the bridges....well done

Well done for keeping going it's so easy to make up reasons/excuses to stop and not do it, for some reason I always get twitchy at the end of my 1st K but push on and am then ok

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to rolysmate

I was twitchy all the way through today...but I kept on...and on...phew!!

IgaT profile image

Oh wow! You are my hero!

After 5 minutes when you were already wet, then well I guess you weren't much more wet in the end, so great decision!

BTW. I envy that your along canal path has concrete. Beautiful place. Mine is totally muddy, slippery and full of overgrown bushes with spikey thorns and nettle taller than me. Sometimes on dry days I run or rather slalom there.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to IgaT

Ha ha thank you!!! It was my first run along the canal today so I didn't really know what to expect...it has a proper path all the way along, thank goodness!! This running game is taking me right out of my comfort zone!!! But I lurrrrve it!!! x

IgaT profile image

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to IgaT

Yipeeeee...you did it!!! Absolutely well done..how did it feel?? x

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to Mummycav

I struggled a lot to push myself out the door, then it went on... somehow... Difficult, but easier than Mon (I repeated W6R2: 2x 10min run). During cool down walk I was happy I did it, as I would regret not doing it. Additionally, it felt good that I can move on with programme. During the run itself... I think for the first time I had neutral feelings - no bad feelings that it is so hard, no good feelings that I am doing something good for myself, or anything like that.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to IgaT

You got out there, that's the main thing...and that shows that it is something you want to do...keep going, you're doing really well...juggling life and fitting time in for running is not easy x

Rather overcoming my laziness :P Going running instead of resting and watching a film or tv show.

I used to exercise a lot when I was teenager and then big injury happen and my weight piled up, my laziness grew deep in me and now it's hard to fight it :P

Running, even in heavy rain, is,ok Go around deep puddles though as you have no idea what lurks beneath!

So let me replay some previous posts of yours, pretty much - I can't do this, this is horrid I can't do this, I am really sure I can't do this....

And so today when the best of us would say I can do this but have no intention whatsoever of doing this, Mummycav decides that doing this is easy peasy after all....🤸‍♂️🏃🏼👍👍👍

You do know this post really truly honestly says you are a runner, don't you? Oh and I agree Mr Smooth is gorgeous, but that whole 60 seconds teasing thing he does....so not fair.

Brilliant post..., hope the eyebrows no longer hurt.

Mummycav profile image

Thanks Oldfloss...it was quite nice splashing through the puddles!!! I'm no Mo Farrah...I'm not speedy Gonzales..I'm comfortable at the pace I'm running at...I'm enjoying it like that, no pressure to keep up with anyone. A gazelle bounced passed me this morning, not fazed by the rain at all...I didn't mind that, compared to him, I was labouring along...so what? It's not a race...I didn't feel useless or rubbish..I was out there & that was good enough for me...it's partly your fault Oldfloss...!! Thank you x

Well done - and a nice bit of writing. I did Run 1 of Week 7 as well today, but in the comfort of a sports centre on a treadmill, so nowhere near the ordeal you had. 25 minutes seems a long way off at the start, but I bet by the end of Run 3, it will seem OK.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to Duddles

Can't imagine running on a treadmill....have you run outside??

Duddles profile image
DuddlesGraduate in reply to Mummycav

I used to all the time - but we had two bad wet winters over here and got used to using the treadmill. Running outside seems a bit like 'showing off' but I do race walk training outside. ,

I've now joined a gym as I also got soaked in the rain on Sunday . I don't mind getting a bit damp but I did not enjoy getting soaked . Actually running in the rain was horrible but the drive home was dire, cold, and dripping wet -ugh ! So I ran my twice weekly 5K on a treadmill for the first time. I watched the TV on the machine and quite enjoyed that. It was ok not great but did the job.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to GrannyHelen57

My journey home was def soggy..!! I've been wondering how I'll go on running in the the really bad weather...maybe it'll have to be a treadmill in the winter??!! Is it very different??

GrannyHelen57 profile image
GrannyHelen57Graduate in reply to Mummycav

Yes it was different but not as bad as expected. I watched TV while running and watched all the beautiful young people😉So I will mix and match my runs I think , as my run along the prom in Bournemouth is lovely ( just not in the pouring rain ) Good luck for the rest of your running journey you are doing so well 😀😀

Lol 😂 that's an ace post - made me laugh my socks off - you definitely get the running bug on this site. I like you ran in the rain ☔️ it came sweeping across the fields and I passed numerous dog walkers in my running t shirt! Lol 😂 as I got home it stopped! Molly and I were soaked but TBA it didn't really bother me and that's the sign of being a dedicated runner 🏃🏼‍♀️😊👍
