Back in May this year, I somewhat foolishly agreed to take part in a Pretty Muddy 5K with 5 friends. My friends are all sorts of sporty - marathons, HMs, triathlons, kayaking - me not so. Some weeks later, I decided I'd better take this seriously, and downloaded the C25K app (having previously tried with Laura, but given up after a few weeks, many excuses in hand). I've now made it to week 6 in the programme and suddenly, hello, here we are at run day! (Not gonna lie, I'd got the date wrong and, until last night, thought I had another week to go!)
So with some trepidation, loaded my friends into my car (did they suggest I drive so I couldn't back out....?) and off we went. The running was tough-ish for me, not used to running on grass, let alone damp long grass and some inclines too. Thankfully, the obstacles broke up the runs and fuelled the laughter, and clocking off the km distance markers gave me hope that I could do this. The (low-ish) A-frame and (low-ish) inflatable slide gave me pause for thought, wimp that I am, but my lovely friends cheered me on and I did it all! (Their kindness and support, setting their speed to match mine and encouraging me all the way, made me think of you guys, too...)
Thoroughly enjoyed a much-needed coffee and bacon butty afterwards, and headed home for a steaming hot shower. 3 shampoos later, I think the mud is all out....!
Now for a rest day or two, and on with the programme!
