First week of post-grad runs done

Rather a mixed bag this week.

Mondays run was cold but wet so we go soaked. Managed to get the full 30 minutes in at a constant (ish) pace but being cold and wet spoils the fun a bit.

Wednesday was cold and not raining. But, the frost on the ground made the footpaths like an ice-rink. The warmup walk did not start well as there was nothing brisk about it, barely able to stand up. We spotted that one of the side roads has a grass verge and gave that a go. The frost covered grass enabled us to get back up to speed for our walk accept for the drive way sections where we were back on a concrete surface.. As we started our run, the grass verge started to slope down towards the road so was a bit more difficult but still better than the icy path. as we crossed the driveway bits we must have looked a sight, trying to slowdown without slipping with arms and legs going everywhere. We completed 30 minutes but could not really classify it as all running.

Today, clear sky and a bit cold but no ice. The warm up was at a good brisk pace and the run went well, no slipping and sliding about. I was quite surprised giving how the last run was barely a run, how well this run went. We got to the end and both felt we could have done a bit more so it is looking good.

We were going to attempt more running with the dogs but think we will get a few more runs under our belts first as I have a feeling that running with the dogs may be a disaster!!

Well done for keeping going and adapting to the conditions!

🍏👏 Beautifully executed! A slower run in slippery conditions is always the best choice! It’s actually good to mix up pace a bit… So very well done!

what a great achievement in some tricky conditions. Every run prepares us for the next so your consolidation is going well! It’s rarely icy here so that’s one hazard I don’t encounter very much! Onwards and upwards 👏🏼

It sounds like you’ve had a great week. It’s good to mix things up and it’s totally fine to walk during your runs too. Not every run needs to be thirty minutes-you might enjoy some short ones, especially when you’re getting your new run buddies used to it!

Running with the dogs will be fun, you are doing great in sometimes difficult conditions, don't run on ice

After a bad ankle sprain while out walking the dogs, I am definitely more safety conscious with regards to ground conditions and do take it easy if slippery. I am looking forward to being able to run with the dogs, hopefully it will be successful.

As left Ng as they don't get over excited and run along beside you it will be ok, if they are lead pullers it'll be different
