So that's my 2nd walk/Run completed. Slightly easier than the First, but I am feeling a little light headed during the 4th run. I did have breakfast before I headed out but maybe I need to eat something different???? Any ideas please. Anyway I have a 4 day break now because I work 4 12 hour shifts. So my last run for week 1 will be Wednesday.
Run no.2: So that's my 2nd walk/Run completed... - Couch to 5K
Run no.2
Perhaps you're running too fast? Try slowing right down and breathe deeply. Also, make sure you're well hydrated and you leave at least an hour after eating before you run.
As you work shifts you could also be tired. I occasionally get light headed if I haven't slept much.
If it happens again then it might be wise to have a chat with your GP.
Well done for starting though and getting the first two runs done 🙂
I personally don't eat before heading out; I figure my body has other things to be concentrating on and doesn't want to digest food as well. Plus I don't like the feeling. So for me, no food or snacks for about two hours before a run.
But I do neck a pint of water or sugar free squash. This is cos I am lazy and don't want to carry anything with me and this seems to be enough hydration to get round my 5k circuit.
You shouldn't need extra food for these runs as you're only burning 200 -300 cals max. The light headedness is more likely to be hydration than food (unless you have a medical condition).
I've heard dates or jelly babies are good for keeping your energy levels up on longer runs. And i have seen others have a banana about an hour before they head out...but definitely keep whatever you choose light!
I think it's going to be trial and error to see what works. I prefer to run in the early morning...its harder to find an excuse not to run and its quieter! Next run I might try a banana and water instead of the toasted teacake and coffee I had this morning....lol
