Early morning runs

I haven’t been running for about 6 weeks. One of the reasons is the weather. It is either too cold, too icy,too windy. I have so many excuses not to run. I really do not want to lose my fitness and have to start again. I was wondering what time the morning runners get up and go. If I run on a work day I have to get up at 6.45 which is so hard at the moment because of the dark and cold.i will be interested to see if anyone has to get up early and if they let the weather prevent them from running.

I have to get up for work at 5.30am so would have to get up at 4:45 to run so I run on my days off. I can’t always fit 3 runs in a wk but I don’t let the cold weather stop me I just make sure I have plenty of layers. Not sure I would run if it was icy.

Any chance of fitting it into your lunch break?

It’s not cold when you start running We had 5 degrees today and it was quite toasty I was running slowly so wore a run top with a run gilet over,,and long tights. I always cover my ears

You quickly get acclimatised. Honest!

I go to a gym in my lunch hour where I do a half hour circuit. I don’t think I would like to run in my lunch hour as I get hot and sweaty

Yes it is cold, wet, dark and miserable 😩 so stay home by the fire 🔥 ?

No. We live in the UK. This is reality. So don’t allow excuses, put your gear on and run. I personally love running in the weather!

I looked at your past posts and this seems to be a theme. Have you thought about a treadmill?

Lol I think you are right. If I had the space I would get a treadmill. I just need to stop procrastinating and just get on with running.

I like a bit of weather. Either a) Wrap up warm, sit out with a flask of tea and a blanket over your legs and wish live in the Riviera, or b) go for a run. Wear shorts and a tee shirt. Get home. Shower. Have a Pina Colada.

I have problems running three times a week due to work and other commitments- I joined the local Leisure Center gym to use the treadmill which I usually do once a week and then I run outside once a week. Weather dependent.

I did have ambitions to use the gym much more but ...... could use a motivational app for that! TBH I’m wasting my money

Thank you for all your replies. Well I finally got out today and ran for half an hour. I went this afternoon. It was really cold when I set off but after a little while i didn’t notice the cold. Now to get 3 runs in I am going to have to get up early 2 mornings on work days. I am determined to make sure I keep up with it now. I will just think that there are others somewhere doing the same as me

I don't run early as am single parent and can't leave kids unattended, but I do workout at 5.30 outside unless it is raining, which makes it unsafe to be lifting weights because slippery. Cold clear mornings when my fingers stick to the frosty barbell are a treat though. I just hum the music from the Rocky IV montage in my head though.

If I go out before work, I get up at 5.20am; try to do this once per week and normally for my short run. I will NOT run on ice though, too scary. Anything else you can just wear more layers for but ice can be dangerous.

I save my long run for the weekend when I can run in daylight. And one other run normally sees me running in the evening in the dark...
