Week 3 R1 Done

Wasn't feeling great when I woke up this morning, my wife has a suspected meniscus tear on her left knee so we spent most of the day yesterday at the local A&E department.

I didn't get much sleep but had to stick to the routine, I ended up slowing down on the last 10 seconds of the second 3 minute section, I didn't slow to a brisk walk, I just slowed my pace a little to make sure I completed it moving faster than a brisk walk.

If Wednesday and Friday are the same I'll stick on Week 3 next week until I'm comfortable.

I'm not sure whether it was the lack of sleep or not that made me slow down but for me, unless I can do this without slowing there's no way would I advance onto Week 4.

To me, repeating a week isn't a step backwards or even pausing, it's a half step forward.

Slow is fine... check out my last post if you have time:)

Sorry about your wife's knee... ouch! Time spent at an A and E... horrid and tiring too! You did really well to get out there.

Be kind to yourself.. use the runs to just relax your mind and body...If you feel you need to repeat a run or even a week's runs, that is your choice, and it is fine:) ... but you may find if you warm up well and just head out relaxed and breathing steadily, you could just go through the next run and really enjoy it.

" Fast enough to get there, but slow enough to see"

Hope your wife is okay!

Thanks Oldfloss, to be honest, that's why I like just jumping on the treadmill, I can shut off my brain and just plod on.

I did, on purpose stay awake last night just to make sure my wife was sound asleep so that I didn't keep her awake (I snore apparently but it's never kept me awake ;) )

I may only be just over 2 weeks in but sticking to the routine is very important to me, here's hoping that R2 and R3 go as planned so I can advance, if not, I'll repeat, as per my post above, it's still a half step forward as it's helping build fitness and stamina.

Thanks again.

Well done Lee it sounds like you have a good strong plan to stick to. Good luck for the next 2 runs out

Sorry to hear about your wife's knee - I hope it turns out to be less severe than it sounds. My husband had to have an op on his meniscus last year and it wasn't fun, although of course he is well over it now. A&E is always top of the list of places one would prefer not to be.

Sounds like you are very motivated and committed to the plan! Hope things continue to go well.
