Brilliant... well done you :)

I am a protein freak myself. Also fat local farmers fruit and vegetables.

Carbs especially refined need to be confined to treats when you will derive maximum enjoyment. Think First class high end Chinese and Indian food. The classiest Pattiserie and roast potatoes with favourite ingredients.

Also butter is royal road to cheap but quality flavours .

Have been a low carb high fat diet controlled diabetic for 2 years. I eat 30g of carbs per day but if I run on this I really struggle. I prefer to keep my protein low and follow a paleo diet which really suits me. I have tried tweaking my macros but for me it has to be healthy carbs.

Seems sensible listening to your body.

I'm type 2 as well, and have experimented with eating before a 5K to not eating before a 5K. Sadly I do not get testing strips on prescription so don;t know what my blood sugars are before or after. I also try to be very careful with carbs - hence my diet and exercise control.

What do you eat before a 5K?

As for the need for carbs - I was following an extremely low carb diet and went for a very long, steep hike and when I reached the half-way point (the summit) I was shaking, and disorientated (obviously having a little hypo - though they claim type 2s can't have hypos) so I ate the banana I had in my bag and ........................ 10 mins later I was feeling fine again. Goes to show ya!

I eat lchf, 30g carbs a day normally. On a morning 5k I have a banana 1 hour before and then a full caffeine coffee and another banana 30 mins before. This is spot on for me and end my run around 5.5mmol.

Not what you're looking for?
