So having graduated last week I was no where near the 5k in my 30 mins. I did think it would take me a while to get to the 5k distance however... a week later and I went around the local park run route with a friend and achieved 5k ππ
I'm doing my first official park run this Saturday, on the same route and hoping to be quicker but feeling really proud of myself.

Well done. Good luck on Saturday. Enjoy Parkrun. Don't put yourself under any pressure. If you get tired and feel like a rest whilst walking, take your rest. Main thing is to enjoy it.
Well done you. I was just the same thinking my 30 mins running was well short of 5k but a couple of weeks later I managed 5k and it felt great. Ok it was still more than 30 mins but I didnt care! I did my first parkrun recently in 37 mins and was thrilled just keeping going was enough achievement for me. I have been increasing distance gradually and now up to 8k. Noticed times are slowly getting faster. All progress is great!
Keep it steady and slow and don't try too hard... you graduated, only, last week and you have done really well...
But, we need to keep on building up those running muscles and our stamina too, so enjoy the Park Run, but just take it at your comfy pace
Well done you, sounds like you underestimated how much you could do. Much better that way hey... may the running gods put a sprinkling of speed in your heels for your next Park run
You should feel proud 5 KM is no mean feat! May I just say though, that looking at your splits it looks like you went off a bit fast. I think if you smoothed that out, you'd have most or all of your splits around the 8 min mark. Don't get too carried along with the crowd at parkrun, they can start off a bit fast, and you don't want to get knackered too early! Enjoy!
