Week 2 Run 3

Hello, I've just joined the couch to 5K community. Week 2 run 3 this morning and it was lashing it down. First run in the rain and realised my running shoes are not water proof! Also I'm convinced the early morning truckers purposely find the biggest puddles to splash me with. Thank you for that rubber duck. Aching back this morning but still very enjoyable. Looking forward to week 3 :)

I did two runs in the rain (before my knee issue) and I loved them. Mind you, I didn't get splashed by HGV drivers.

Good luck for week three! 😀

I love running in the rain..it's very liberating...but I run in the park so no wagon drivers just muddy dogs!! My trainers aren't waterproof either...finding some is on my 'to do' list!! I'll follow this post for suggestions! Happy running...p.s how did you find week 4?? I'm stuck!! I was stuck on W3 for yonks too!!!

Hi, no week 4 for me yet. Just about to start week 3. Pushed myself this morning to go just a little bit further and a little bit faster in preparation for the 'longer' runs in week 3. Feet just dried out :). How long have you been running?

Sorry...I don't know why I'd read that you'd don't be W4??!! This running lark must be affecting my eye sight....!!! I started running early May..I have repeated some of the weeks, especially week 3 as I've wanted to do each run and complete it without walking when I should be running but, even this morning when I did W4 R3 again I found myself walking again, not for very long but, even so, I hadn't completed it properly...I do love running though, I love how it makes me feel, before, during and after...when I've had a run like this mornings though I'm a little bit disappointed but not put off, just determined to do better next time...the people on here are so nice...they're full of advice & encouragement, knowing that they'll read my posts with a smile is what keeps me going!! They're like my running siblings!!!!!! Good luck with week 3...I'm sure you'll do well...and, as they advise steady and slow...I don't know how to 'tag' someone on here yet but Oldfloss, Jancanrun & Jannowruns all advise this

Thank you for the advice and the encouragement. It sounds like you're being incredibly thorough completing your weeks runs properly. I think you'll be there in no time :). I don't know why but I can't help trying to push myself especially on my last run of every session. I'll try to reign myself in a bit.

Most running shoes are deliberately not waterproof. They are designed so water runs through them, away from your feet, so you don't get frozen blistered feet

In winter you can get a waterproof sock but they cost a lot. I think you might need them if running long distance You can get shoes with a Goretex coating but I can't comment on them as never used, them. Mind you my latest Nikes say they are H20 resistant

Thank you for the advice. I don't mind getting wet, it's just getting my shoes dry for the next run that bothers me :) I suppose running in wellies isn't an option? :)

No... that would be very hard :)

I like my squelch at the end of the run :)

I completed the same run this morning, found it fine but I'm daunted by week 3 run 1 and the jump in run times, as I found the leap from 60 - 90 seconds a bit of a shock at first

Yeah, I know what you mean. Looking forward to the 3 minute runs though. Just think that in 6 weeks time we'll be running for 30 minutes solid! How about that for daunting?

Best of luck with your week 3 :)

😂but I bet you can do it now can't you?? 😉

Well done on finishing a squishy Week 2! I think waterproof trainers are probably a must, mine are mesh fine for summer and the dry, but I'm thinking I'll need Wellington boot standard for winter. Take care with the aching back though, it's horrid to get an injury so early on in the programme. Good luck with W3. Its fun.

Thank you :) Yeah, the backache was weird. Felt perfectly okay when I was getting ready to go out but as soon as I started running I felt it. It did ease off later in the run though so luckily I could carry on. I'm hoping it was a one off. Not looking forward to the winter. It's one thing starting this programme in the summer in good temperatures but dark cold mornings is gonna be the test.

Fun eh!!! Gotta love the rain... I was once nearly drowned by a white van man!

Very well done you... I was out there too...but in soggy fields and muddy track ways...loved it!

Make sure you stretch well and do some gentle exercises for that back too!

I did actually enjoyed the rain :). I seem to have taken to the running okay but I'm useless at stretching exercises. I couldn't even touch my toes when I was young and supple.

Try these. :)

Quite a few of us did these on rest days and found them helpful.. they can be dine indoors.. ( I did mine indoors) you just have to substitute stair rails for tree branches, or railings :)

Sounds like you're doing really well. I don't think many (if any) of us can believe we will run for 30 minutes non stop when we start the programme but I am now doing 25 minutes. It's more of a shuffle actually but as the others will tell you, slow and steady.

As for stretching exercises I've found some good yoga ones on youtube. I'm not supple at all but these really do help.

25 minutes is great! I know I'm a long way off that and I'm just trying to focus on the week ahead and nothing more but every now and again I remember what week 9 has in store! I'll have a look into the yoga. I think I need something to help, thanks for the tip.
