Following up on yesterday's post - I DID IT! Ran 5K without stopping and walking!! When Laura said I could stop (after 30mins) I was only 500m or so from the end so I pushed through πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺ🏼

Again struggled with pacing myself, average speed 7:00m/km, and so was struggling from about 15 minutes in... any tips on pace?

Very well done! Can't advise on pace I'm afraid, I'm still working on that too, but for me 7min/km is a pretty decent pace. Welcome to the Parkrun family 😊

Well done!

You upped your pace on the last run, which is not a bad, so what is the problem? Just keep getting out doing what your doing and building gradually..

I'm happy that I upped my pace, but during the run I was very tired very early so might have been a bit much 😜

You did so well! Great start to the weekend. I also did PR this morning with my daughter and her friend, a lovely run!

Start a bit slower, its easy to get carried along with faster runners. Try to aim for negative splits perhaps, where you start slow and quicken a little each kilometre.

That's a good idea, thanks! I'll give that a go. I found myself trying to keep up with people obviously much fitter than me!!

It's hard to find the right pace. I did my 11th Parkrun today. Did not go out to break a PB, just ran for fun. Over time as you get stronger and fitter and comfortable with running your pace will naturally improve and a 7:00/km pace will be your fun run comfortable pace. Well done for running it all.πŸ‘

Today I ran a comfortable 6:26/km pace. That pace would have been too much for me 6 weeks ago and I would have had to walk bits of the course. Now I can comfortably run that pace for 5k and chat to a fellow runner for most of the course.

Keep running and a 7:00/km pace will soon be a piece of cake for you.

I started right at the back today for my first parkrun thinking it would be more mentally encouraging to be able to pass a few other people than have everyone flying past me. Got past 70 and to be honest it felt good πŸ˜‚

I started right at the back and finished right at the back today, but then that was my job as I was tailwalker today 😊

Excellent! Now you're hooked..... πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ I love parkrun ❀️, best way to start the weekend. I never know or plan what I feel like doing at parkrun, I generally start off slow - mine is very busy, usually over 500 runners.....and then see how I settle, I do generally speed up, but just go with the flow.

Fantastic stuff, well done you especially on the last 500. As I understand it pace comes with practice and squats probably as Rignold may hint... you could maybe try some HIIT sessions, I'm not there yet, but I hear they are a useful tool

Fair point on HIIT thing... maybe we could drop one of the I's and then it may not be quite so bad

(in the dark - my choice!!) and we did the circuit at my pace walking and running as necessary then...
