Hi all, I've managed to run confidently for the first four weeks but I've hit an obstacle. I can not finish week 5's run 2 or 3 without walking early. For example, I can run the first 8 minutes fine but the second 8 minutes I can only do 4 minutes of running. Anyone got any tips to help? Thanks in advance.

Channel your inner Oldfloss - chant slow, slow and slower or anything similar. You are starting too fast I think, it's bizarre but your muscle memory seems to encourage a faster start each time and you have to hold it back. Try running slower at the outset and when you get to the second 8 minutes, give yourself permission just to try say 5 minutes, if you feel okay, slow it down once more and try for another 1. Practice runs work very well, nothing you have done is wasted this is all going in your stamina and km bank, for graduation. Good luck next time out and let us know how you got on.
Hi I've managed to now run for 20 minutes continuously! I just concentrate on my music and the lyrics instead of the ache in my legs. Thank you all for your help
Maybe go back to week 4 and complete that again a few times to lift your confidence. Then pick a nice day when you're feeling good and try again. You will get there....!
It doesn't matter. You can do,it, you will,do,it, but not quite yet. The walk when you need it is ok and is your body telling you what to do. You will develop more lung power as you make progress and you will nail it. It will be such a great day when it happens. No rush though. Take care 🙂
I wouldn't go back. I'd stick at it till you make it. If you really concentrate on slow, slow, slow I am sure you will crack it.
Do as my friend Hidden says.. slow down. It is that easy...
Just know that you can do this.. this week can upend folk but you can do it...think of other things,, you can get hung up on the times.. So, think rhymes, songs, making up names for the folk you see.. think of us all running with you, but so slowly that you can talk to us Lucky you
Do this.. steady and slow
