Am a graduate and have been trying to push to get closer to 30 mins for 5k. Last two runs I have done Saturday and today have had to walk due to tightness in my hamstring after about 3k. It is so painful I have had to walk. Any suggestions how I can overcome this we don't want to stop running ?

Hamstring injury
It doesn't sound like an injury if it's holding out ok for 3k before tightening up. It sounds more like it's going into spasm.
Maybe try magnesium supplements. Your muscles need it to relax after contracting. If you run low on magnesium your muscle signalling goes to pot.
You also need potassium and sodium for the same signalling but they're both abundant in food whereas magnesium is less so.
Stop running...would be my advice...I am about the head to the Physio to check our a niggly twinge.( calf problem..).
Was on the IC over twelve days ... doing everything correctly to get the problem sorted.. then some gentle walks and then did two gentle runs..fine, then Sunday..after 3 K..bingo.. back again..!
Best to rest up, roller and appropriate exercises..but, if no improvement.. then get it checked out.. we do expect some aches and pains; not sure when you graduated..? but, it sounds as if you may have pushed a tad too hard, and be suffering because of it?
Ignoring the messages from our bodies, (and we know when something is more than an ache), is not a good idea!
Graduated in march and then was out of action due to an Achilles problem. Been back running since May with no problems.have been trying to up the speed and maybe the body says no! Holiday coming up so rest will be achieved.
