Running with gerd
I'm no expert but I don't think this should happen maybe you should go to the doctors before you start running so they can give you a checkup
Is the pain exactly what you are 'used to' with GERD?
I know my brother, who is a runner but has suffered from similar problems, is very scrupulous about leaving 3 hours after eating before running, which is longer than most of us need to.
It may be that some tweaking of timing, and perhaps too of *what* you eat may be important.
Hi yep it was very similar and not as bad last night as I did leave longer without eating just was hoping it was normal for gerd sufferers as I am determined to get fit and lose weight all of which in the long term should make my gerd easier to deal with thanks for your answer makes me feel a bit better xx
I have a gastric reflux problem (not actually diagnosed as gerd) and am on two acid suppressants. I found I need to leave at least two hours ideally more before running, and drink plenty water (I take water with me even on a short run) I need to eat before a run i.e. I can't run first thing in morning so I have breakfast then at least two hours wait . I had chest pain last night strangely whrn running -tightness really- but managed a run.
I would persevere. You are early days and your body will get used to it and you will find what works for you. Don't run too fast. I graduated nearly a year ago and am still slow but it works for me.
I assume you mean GORD (and perhaps are in America, so that oesphagus doesn't had an "o"). Although it is possible that it can worsen with exercise, chest pain must be treated with respect. It is probable that your doctor will assume that chest pain with exercise is cardiac pain until proven otherwise. Your use of the word terrible worries me. So go and see your doctor and hopefully prove otherwise.
