Becoming anxious about my W5R3 tomorrow - Couch to 5K
Becoming anxious about my W5R3 tomorrow
Trust the programme you can and will do it and the feeling at the end is fantastic, go for it enjoy it. π
You can do it, I did! Trust the programme and breathe
I'm doing it Saturday and know how you feel but we can do this. Positive thoughts .
I'm doing it tomorrow too, also a bit nervous, but so far the programme hasn't let us down, so let's trust it (and all these lovely people that post here!)
We've got this!!
I was exactly the same but this program does work. Have faith in yourself and the program. You have done the preparation for this run, relax and slow and steady wins the day. You can do it !
Slow.... slower... slowest! Steady as you go and trust the programme. You are ready for this...so many of us had these doubts... we survived
I think nearly everyone feels like this but nearly everyone does it first time too. Trust the programme and start slow. You will make it and you will feel such an amazing sense of achievement.
I doubted I could achieve almost every run... you are not alone! Trust the program and you will surprise yourself. I realised that if a run went bad- who cares!! give yourself a rest day and try again. A bad run is better than sitting on the sofa!! Usually however, I found the program was right- not saying it wasn't hard, but you can do it!!!!
slow slow slow, a really slow run doesn't use much more energy than brisk walking and I bet you could do a 20 minute brisk walk no problem. good luck
You can do this, and I can guarantee that will you feel amazing afterwards.
It's not as hard as you think it will be. Go slow and steady, you'll be fine π
You can do it, in fact you will find wk6r1 harder which takes you back to 8 minutes running and you are doing that now. Very, very soon 20 minutes will be the point you're happy with your pace. Remember it's not about speed.
C25k is not just about learning to run - it's about believing in yourself, believing you can do it and making the impossible possible - you are ready - you can do it - you will do it π
I found that run surprisingly ok. I think some of the worrying translated into adrenaline plus reassurance from the forum also helped (so it's good you asked!). I agree with all the other commentors. But most especially about going slower than you think possible. Good luck! You won't need it though, x
Its another run on the programme. Don't build it up to too much in your head. The programme has been designed so that the run/walking you have been doing has got you physically prepared. Here on in is where the mental toughness starts its own training - to convince a non-runner that they can run. You will do it and feel great - you've got this.
It's not bad at all I was so worried and all for nothing I'm glad the shorter runs are over now
Here's my vlog for week 5 xx
You can do it! Go super slow. The feeling of accomplishment when you manage it is amazing! I was anxious about that one but now when I look back it was my favourite of the programme. It was when I felt like I really had become a runner!
I did it and I am so so π, I was having a panick attack when I started and just told myself to breathe. Thank you
Well done!! Fantastic news! What an achievement!
Thank you so much, I could breath properly when I started this morning but I felt I was having a panick attack. But OMG went through the 20 mins without stopping and it felt really good. Thank you all!
Well done. As I mentioned earlier please don't build these runs up too much in your head. The programme is a gradual process, no leaps are made, but our brain tells us we are going from running 8 minutes to 20. It is not the case as iain-strachan points out. The walking is in there for a reason and that's to gradually build your stamina.
The runs are going to get longer now and the mental test become more prominent. Please don't work yourself up. The worst that can happen is that you don't complete the time. In that case take a day off and try again later. No reason to panic.
I was anxious about W5R3 last week - it seems like a big step up - but in the end it was no big deal. Remember in R2 you had 8 + 5 + 8 so the "action" took 21 minutes, with brisk walking in between. So your 20 mins running is shorter in time. Lots of people have said they find the continuous runs are easier than the ones with walking in between. I hope that's true because I'm on W6R3 this lunchtime!
Good luck and let us know how it went!
I recently posted a similar thread... all of the advice and encouragement given helped massively.
I am now in Week 7 so doing 25 minute runs. I never ever thought I'd be able to do this.
Here are my words of advice:
Trust the programme
Distract yourself. I downloaded Audible and am now listening to an audio book. (Listening to music or looking ast the squirrels in the park just weren't cutting it). I now find I get totally submerged in the book and the time flies by.
Slow your pace if you need to (even if you think you are going at a walking pace... it's ok to go slow and steady). You are privacy moving faster than you think... My phone automatically logs distance when I run and I managed to do 3.5K in 25 minutes.
In fact, this weekend when I have a bit more time, I will challenge myself. I reckon I could've run longer than 25 minutes... so I will. Maybe, just maybe i can do 5K
Audible - nice idea. So agree re distraction! Have just done w8r3 and got a bit cocky re running a bit faster/farther than the programme - and gave myself leg pain. So just take care not to go too far too soon. The pain didn't start till sometime after I'd stopped. All right this morning though π€
Ah, so you did it! Well done. Now you can worry about everything next one......
