Anxious about run

Tomorrow will be W1R2, and I’m not looking forward to it! Last time, my lungs felt like they were on fire, and it was not pleasant. I really hope that tomorrow‘s run won’t be as difficult as Wednesday’s. I know it’s REALLY early days, but I do tend to be put off by things like pain! 😟

I think you made the same mistake as I did at the start! Your brisk walk can be faster than your run! It seems natural to want to run faster than your walk but I was the same as you, bright red and ready to burst! And take a look at this m.youtube.com/watch?v=9L2b2... I saw this in W6 and wish I’d seen it sooner. I still run this way and love it! It’s low impact and an interesting technique (it’s worth watching a few times over the weeks if you like it as it’s hard to get it all in one go), but it sorted my breathing immediately! So study this tonight and tomorrow you’ll be ready!

Just watched this. It’s amazing! I’ll try it tomorrow! By the way, my brisk walk to the meeting place left me breathless! 😱

I also did this at the start and had to slow the brisk walk down! But with the Japanese slow jogging, and a measured walk you’ll get there! After a bit I could speed up my walk but keep my run slow! You are not alone!!

Slow right down, breathe deeply and fully and you will be fine.

Follow the pacing advice in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

If you are anxious you will be tense, which is counterproductive.

Relax and read this healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

It is impossible to fail unless you head permanently back to the sofa.

Couldn’t go much slower really, especially as I was with someone who was on week four, but who mentored me for my first run. I will NOT return to the couch, even if it takes me nine YEARS to graduate! 😂

Go as slow as you need to.

Don't try to keep up with someone else.

We all have our own easy conversational pace, and it will get speedier as you get stronger.

I’m at the beginning to, I’m doing my second run of w2 tomorrow. The only advice I can give is the advice I had from the great community on here... slow down! Just slow down, your lungs shouldn’t be on fire, you need to take it easy. My gentle jog is just that... gentle. I’m not ‘running’ On the app it says you need to be able to hold a conversation, as I’m on my own I tried talking to myself 😂 it actually helped. Take it easy and take your time. Slower ( in this case) is the key. Best of luck, you got this

Slow right down...relax...and then slow down more..Make sure you do your post run stretches..and start putting in some non impact exercise in on some rest days...you're going to be fine...each run makes you stronger.

Have you checked out the FAQ post for Newbies?? Lots of great advice there:)

Hi I have just run w2 R2 and my thighs are so achy and I really struggled today 😢 didn’t enjoy and feel like the 90 seconds run is to much ... how does everyone else progress so easily ... I must be doing something wrong 🥴 Saturday am is my next run, let’s hope it feels a bit easier. I have never exercised in my life, maybe I’m just so unfit ... not giving up though x 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Can you speak aloud clear ungasping sentences as you run?

Are you stretching after every run?

It is all in the guide.

Hi no I’m out of breath and panting quite hard after the 3rd 90 second run ... I do the 5 min slow down run

in reply toGalladaydream

Take your time. Go really really slow. It doesn't matter if your jog is the same speed/slower than your brisk walk.

Please read the guide to the plan and follow the advice on pace and stretching.

I found myself dreading this run too for some reason but it wasnt as bad as I had blown it up to be in my head. I think slowing it right down might be the key. Take it easy and hopefully you will start to see and feel improvements very soon. I'm starting week two tomorrow and I can't see me being able to run 90 seconds easily. Ive told myself that if I'm still finding it hard at the end of the second week then i will repeat that week and make sure i feel ready to move on as I don't want to put myself off (which would be very easy to do!) Good luck, let us know how ypu find it 😊

Thank you! Now I’ve watched the Japanese video, I’m sure it will be easier. I must go at my pace, and not everyone else’s.

Everyone on here has given you brilliant advice already. Do check out DiscoRunners advice for the Slow Jogging - it is brilliant.

I found my W1R2 so different to the first, in a good way. It does get better. Once you have followed a hard run with a good one, then you know you have it in you to do it. Don't view a hard run as a bad run, as you will have gained strength and stamina from it that will make the next run easier, even if that is hard to believe.
