With the heat I haven't been out running for nearly two weeks now. The last one I did was a Wake Up and Run event - 5k at 5.30 in the morning. Lots of hills so I walked quite a lot, but it was an enjoyable event. I had been mentally working up to another 5k event I had entered, this Friday, but learned this morning it has been cancelled because of the heat. I am a bit disappointed because without that external push I'm not sure I'll be able to motivate myself to get out, not until the weather cools down anyway.
BUT - I have been thinking for a while that I need to incorporate some strength training to improve my running, so this week I got my kettlebells out and started swinging and squatting. A decent workout takes no more than half an hour, and I can do it with the fan running full blast.
At the same time, I have discovered that workout clothes keep me much more comfortable while working at my desk than my usual linen wafters and cotton t-shirts. I need those wicking properties at the moment.
Looking for silver linings.
