Today I feel like I've failed. On week 4 run 2 I had to slow to a walk for 30 seconds during the second 3 minute run (the one after the first 3 min and 5 min) due to a stitch but I started again after walking it off and managed to do the final 5 mins. Today during week 4 run 3 I had to do intervals of walking/running for the last 5 mins as I was feeling really weak and faint. Should I repeat this week until I can do it properly? Thanks
Disappointed π: Today I feel like I've failed... - Couch to 5K

Lou, it is really HOT!
Maybe give yourself a break and try again when it's cooler. It doesn't matter if you repeat a run or week....you will get there over the next few weeks; just take it slow and easy π
It was reading 29 degrees and to be honest I think that's what did me!! Going to repeat the week and see how I get on! Thank you π
Think of this programme as fluid and flexible, designed to move your body from wherever it is, to being able to run non stop for 30 minutes. It is not a tick box exercise. Next time you do this run you will be stronger and better prepared, so you have failed nothing, it was that circumstances conspired against you to complete today. It happens to all of us, no matter how long we have been running.
Every run is training for the next one. You are doing great. Look how far you have come already. Repeat the run, then move on.
Thank you for this advice. It's made me feel a little bit like I can't do it but like you say if I have to repeat it 10 times I will at some point be ready to move on to the next stage.
I do go very slow and barely faster than a walk, but this time last year I couldn't get up the stairs without help so I have to recognise how far I've come. I'm just a very pessimistic person π π
I've said this countless times but it perhaps bears repeating (and Week 1 took me somewhere between 12 and 18 outings)... my recommendation would always be that if you are not running in a run section because you really feel you can't run any more, that's it, you walk the rest of the session and then after a day (or more) off you do that session again. I feel that this works better at building physical and mental stamina and providing clear markers for progress than walking a bit, running a bit (all you need of that is built into the programme after all!)
But honestly, you're doing great. The heat is a real challenge.
(I recently had a run with my uncle who is in his 70s walking easily alongside me...)
1. F word (failed) not allowed
2. Weak & faint - probably as so hot!
Take it as a practice and complete it next time - and make sure you are properly hydrated in this weather.
