Just done the Race for Life - what a disaster!

So, I do this every year and today was embarrassingly awful - couldn't run the whole thing! My excuse, it was VERY hot and I was in hospital a week ago having a general anaesthetic - I can only assume that I still have some in my system ....... well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it OK!? I will try to do my 'own' Race for Life this/next week - I know I can jog 5k albeit rather slowly - embarrassingly the walkers today were all over-taking me - I've clearly still got some 'go slow' drugs in my system?!! Hope you're all well x

Wasn't a disaster. You did it! No excuses needed well done.

You did it! And after being in hospital too. It was hot, busy and chaotic - not ideal conditions for an enjoyable run, really (I got particularly frustrated by the kids running in circles around me using drinks bottles as water pistols...!) but you did it anyway! Congratulations 👍

come what may you still did it so well done, and you probably do still have "go slow" juice in your system

I'm assuming they didn't give you a general anaesthetic just for a laugh.

So hospital plus chemicals plus whatever you needed doing under anaesthetic plus heat on the day, and you still managed it.

I'd be happy with that.

Thanks for that MrDecrepit - kind words, as with everyone else, thank you 😘. No, they didn't give me a GA for a laugh - least I hope not!

Well done toria😊. Definately the anesthesia played a part.

See you haven't stepped up to the podium for your Graduate badge. Do so by asking on the pinned posts below. Maybe you 'wearing' your badge on your next run will help you along.😊x

Yes, saw you had to do 35 mins in your graduate week. Definately think you deserve a badge for when you post on here.😊 you still followed a c25k plan.

You were under GA last week and you still did it? I'm impressed. Pat yourself on the back, girl. The temperatures alone are enough to keep me out of my trainers. Take care of yourself.

Thanks mfamilias - nice words x

But you finished it. And yes a GA takes more out of you than people realise.

Wow! A race for life a week after a hospital procedure, and in the summer heat? Well done! I probably wouldn't have done it. I think you should be incredibly proud of yourself for turning up and trying. It's just bad luck that you had to go to hospital just before the race. You still completed it,and that's amazing!

Seems like you did amazingly well with all that was going on :)

Can't believe you did it in this heat, let alone after all you've been through this week - really well done!!!

That's not an excuse - it is a reason. I am impressed you even started.

Hats off to you, a GA can take it out of you for ages.

Much admiration to you for doing this only after a week of being in hospital 👏 You did it and completed it so very well done 🤚

Thank you again to everyone for being so lovely and supportive. I felt fine yesterday (apart from the heat) so didn't even consider at the time that I still may have GA in my system still - just so frustrating (and bad timing) but hopefully will do it next year! You're all lovely - sending you all a big virtual hug of thanks x

I did the race for life on Saturday the pretty muddy one. I celebrated that I could run some of it. It's all about perspective. Be proud of what you achieved and remember with practice you can do more
