Week 5 - I'm coming for you !!!

Just finished run 3 week 4 - went out slightly later than normal (have preferred to run early so as not to see anyone!!). But this morning I had to run past 3 people and it was OK - they didn't fall about laughing at me - not sure I'm ready to run in front of crowds yet but I feel pleased that I'm doing it.....finding it hard though but so far have managed to complete every run - still not convinced I will be able to do the 20mins run but I do have faith in this programme and am just taking each run as it comes!!

That's the way to go... one run at a time. I don't know one person who didn't balk at the thought of 20 minutes. Personally, I was terrified but you're absolutely right to have faith in the programme. Look how far it has brought you. Well done for getting out amongst people too - that can be just as big a hurdle as the physical side. Enjoy week 5😊😊

Thank you McFitty - yes I agree - my mind is constantly coming up with excuses as to why I won't achieve this. I would love to be running 5k by September as want to enter a fun run for Hospiscare but don't have the confidence at the moment to sign up. Fear of failure especially in a proper organised event with an audience watching me is a big thing...!!

A good cause to run for. By September you will have that confidence I'm sure👍

I was so scared of seeing people that I ran almost the entire programme round my back garden, only venturing out once I was certain I could run for 30 minutes! My first 5k took around an hour (and I walked bits of it). But a year on from starting the programme I still run and I'm a lot less self conscious. The fear of failure was always my bugbear until I heard the term 'practice run' coined by Irish-John . No failed runs, just practice runs. Sometimes I would tell myself I was actually just going for a 'practice run' then when I completed it I felt invincible and if I didn't, it was just a practice. Took the pressure right off! We all have our own little foibles to get through stuff and whatever works for you is fine😊

The programme is incredible though and it really does work. Our mindset is always half the battle!
