Hi all, which is the best app/podcast to use? I've seen so many conflicting reviews. I'd like one with music and also someone cheery to egg me on! Is there such a thing? Sx
Which app/podcast?: Hi all, which is the best... - Couch to 5K
Which app/podcast?
Hi SoozyM I use the c25k app you can choose from 4 different coaches to talk you through each session I have Sarah Millican who is very cheery and you can also use your own music too.
Thanks Nikkidoodle. I'd read somewhere that the apps/podcasts have music that helps you get the right rhythm when running? My phone is a Samsung android phone as well, will it be compatible? I'll need to upload some decent music, all I've got on my phone are the suggestions for my first dance at my wedding!
May I suggest "now that's what I call running 2017", modern and older tunes with an upbeat tempo!
Haha maybe not the first dance songs otherwise you migt break into a run during the first dance! I have a Samsung phone too you can get the app from the play store. You could also try Spotify it's free with ads in or you can subscribe for ad free access. Good Luck 😁
Hi SoozyM; I've got the NHScouch to 5K free app and J Wiley nursing me along my journey. I've gone to free radio appsites and chosen Smooth FM as the background sounds.Enjoy your road to success.

Soozy - Oldfloss has given you the links to the NHS Live Well C25K podcast. It is all 'self-contained' with the delightful Laura providing instructions and advice, all nicely mixed together with music of the right tempo and uplifting atmosphere. No app required, no subscription required, no 'the app froze on me' problems, just straightforward podcast.
Us chaps absolutely adore Laura, and I'm sure that some of the fairer sex would admit to a tiny bit of a girly-crush on her, too. You'll see plenty of references on this forum to Laura (and Julie, too, but she comes later )
Hi Soozy. I have used the app for a week (W1) with Sarah Millican who is very cheery and encouraging. I have a normal android phone (Samsung) and just put on shuffled music from my collection. When Sarah talks it automatically lowers the music volume. But I know that sometimes the running seems to mess with the phone and it stutters so will have a go with a little MP3 player and the pidcast next.
I used the podcasts with Laura and they are glitch free. I listened to the music provided, and whilst not THE best (understatement!) i survived it and lived to tell the tale. You get to meet Julie if you listen to the podcasts.
I downloaded the podcasts and listened to them on my mp3 player (and in fact still have week 9 on it and listen to it sometimes because Laura pipes in every 5 minutes and gives encouragement). I downloaded one week/workout at a time and deleted them when I was done. Personally, I liked the podcasts because when I first did the programme in 2012, Laura was the only choice, and though there are probably options in the US for something similar, this Yank gal likes to hear a British gal cheering me on. When I wanted to get back into running last summer, I knew there was only one place I wanted to find inspiration
It has to be the one and only NHS C25K podcasts with Laura! Yes, the music is... um... perhaps not what I would normally choose to listen to but you have to consider it a rite of passage. It makes me giggle when I see posts on here 'Who is Julie?' Ah, I think to myself, if you have to ask, you weren't there...
I'm using the NHS app an Jo is great, very encouraging then choose my own music. No glitches yet!
I use the NHS app too with Jo. I've found almost any music works well, just had to trawl the old memory banks to find the tracks I like. Have fun!
Another vote for the Podcasts and Laura from me. Downloaded onto my Mp3 (no signal problems) really good instruction, encouragement and music.
Good luck 😊
Thank you for all the input. I tried to download the nhs.uk podcasts to my phone and it wouldn't work. Even typed in the whole url (more than once!) and it wouldn't even go to the page or the link, and that was via google using my home wifi connection... Then tried the app on the Play store and it told me I don't have enough space...I've only got a 2GB SB card so going to go and get a larger one today to see if that helps. aaargh!!
