Tracking run
Until you have graduated don't worry about it. distance and speed matter not at this stage of the game.
I agree with Rignold. Speed and distance are irrelevant when you're doing the program. I treated myself to a running watch for my graduation and I used that to build on what I'd achieved since completing c25k. Just stick with Sarah Millican for now and when you've graduated and got to the end of this brilliant program then maybe have a look. What week are you up to at the moment?
W3. About to go for run 2
More out of interest as although just completing the c25k is great I would be interested to know how I am progressing
Although I appreciated my one run with mapmyrun (w2r3) on Friday mildly interesting to discover my Pilates teacher lives 3.63k from my front door). I think I agree with the others- prob best, for me at least, to stick w Sarah for now. It's all about getting the job done at the moment rather than 'measuring' in detail which possibly ramps up the sense of competition and therefore the spectre of defeat. I think it helps me to check in on these forums- so the runs (or wobbles or non-runs or injuries or life-events or other inhibiting demands) are tracked by a supportive crowd as it were. Good luck, flower! (My Sarah - no your Sarah- oh all right, we can share.) 😊
Hi KimLouLou, I'm just starting week 4 and I use the podcasts and lovely Laura to help me shuffle around the streets. I wear a Fitbit Charge HR simply because I have done now for nearly 2 years. At the time I chose that because I wanted to monitor my heart rate but with no interest in running, decided I didn't need a GPS like the more expensive models. My husband and son run and they use Garmins for that reason, so maybe I will change in future but I feel no need right now. Mine tells me how far I ran ( based on stride length rather than GPS) and if I press start and stop at from door will also provide pace details ( no, I didn't know what they were either) It gives you say 12'28". That means over the whole half hour with warm up etc, I was moving at speeed which would take 12 mins and 28 sec to cover a km. ( I have mine set to metric, but you can set to imperial and get time for a mile). clearly then I'm only covering 2.5 ish km in 30 mins but I don't care at this point. I'm only recording it so that when I get to the end and understand these things more, I have a reference point.
In short, mine is fine, as I already had it but I'm not sure it's the best thing for you buy. There will no doubt be far more knowledgable people along soon to help you!!!
Hi who is this Laura I keep reading about pls ?
On the NHS C25K podcast, Laura is the angel who tells you what to do, makes helpful comments and generally offers the right words of encouragement at just the right time.
As MarkyD says she's the voice on the podcast rather than the app. I tried the app (Sarah Millican selected) and it sounds to me like Laura was the original and her words have been provided to the four coaches on the app and they read them at the appropriate times. So there's not really a big difference, I just think Laura sounds more genuine and a bit less forced, and according to people on this forum she went from complete non runner to a complete star using this program. Hope this helps.
I have my fitbit on one wrist and my Garmin FR10 on the other. I press start and stop at the same time, and they both show quite different distances. I think the fitbits particularly need to be taken as a 'guide' rather than as an accurate recorder of steps/distance. They are, however, a good indicator that you are improving, and they are a good motivator, which is what this is all about when all is said and done!
I use the Fitbit App on my I-phone, that tracks distance and speed via GPS. It's fun logging into my PCs after to see max speeds etc (and when I stopped to cross roads!).
Hi there, I've got a basic Garmin Forerunner 10 watch, I like to have a record of what I've done, evidence if you like! 😂 I can't remember if I'd got it before I finished the programme or not, but it suits me.......
Hope you find something you like

Hi kimloulou
I have micheal johnson talking me through on the app and i also wear a fitbit charge 2. I love the fitbit, i check ny heart rate, my speed and if i'm better than the run before. It has gps but i run on a treadmill. I don't really know what it all really means and probably won't get full use until i'm a proper runner and then i'll probably want something more accurate and running specific but for now it keeps me happy and helps with motivation.
