Tracking your run

Quick question, is there any way of tracking your run in the app at all. Was hoping when I completed W1R1 today I'd have details of where I run and a breakdown of it like other running/fitness apps

If you read the guide to the plan you will find mention of several tracking apps that will work alongside the C25k app, which in itself only keeps a record of you starting and stopping the workout sessions.

Silly question, but where’s the guide? Thanks!

Hi Gregob,

no the app won’t track pace, route etc but I use Strava for doing that as it runs in the background so doesn’t interfere with c25k.

I used Nike Run Club tonight (it’s free) which gave lots of interesting info.

Might have to try that one Weeble, I’m only using the free version of Strava so all the interesting data isn’t available

I use it with my Apple Watch. It shows kilometres, pace, time, calories, elevation gain, heart rate. It shows a map of your route (colour coded for speeds, I think). It shows something called splints. Not figured those out yet lol. You can also record your miles per running shoes etc.

Weeble2, splits is the pace of each KM.. So, it would show how much time each km took you.. for me it’s usually good in the beginning, gets marginally better and then degrades drastically at the end where I’m super tired..

Thanks for explaining it to me, now makes sense 👍

I have found the GPS not good on NRC, it says I am running further/faster than mapmyrun or runkeeper

Oh dear, that’s not good. It’s such early days for me, I just wanted a free app to give me an indicator.

Which app would you recommend??

I tend to use runkeeper and mapmyrun, I have one on 5 minute intervals and one on km intervals, they tend to be broadly similar.

Forget about it. Don’t worry. Just follow the app. Do exactly as it says. No more and no less. At the end when your ready to do more then go to a sports shop or online shop and buy a GPS sports watch. You’ll get all the info you need then. But honestly just follow the plan. Don’t get caught up in BS data.

I use Strava. I find it really motivates me, not only because I can see my previous runs but also my friends!

I use “map my run” tells you how fast you are going every km , called “splits”. I have that running, my music and C25K, takes a bit to press all at the start but works for me .

I use run keeper

It runs along the side and it’s free

It tells you how far you have run

How long it takes you to run each km

How many calories you have burned

And it shows a map of your run also

I use the free version of Strava as it runs alongside the app no problem. Has just enough data to be useful but not too much. The bit I find most useful is that you can plan ‘routes’ and save them on there. That way you know exactly how far your run will be and saves doubling back when half way through

Ah I like the sound of this and had no idea the free Strava could do it! Do you mind explaining how you do this?

Thanks in advance.

Hello - hopefully this helps: on the Strava app use the link to ‘profile’ at the bottom (next to record) and then on the profile page scroll down to the bottom where it says ‘routes’

If you select this you can create (or view and use previously created) routes. To add a route it’s as simple as pressing the + button and them using the pen icon to draw your route on the map by holding down and dragging it. It will then tell you in km how long that route is etc.

It’s a little temperamental and sometimes throws you out of the app for no reason but with a little perseverance it’s worth it

Hi, thanks for details but I don't seem to have any other options once I select "route" it changes screen but to two maps shown one of a pc and mobile but no button to explore or build routes...🤔 I'm not the best with technology so it's probably me at fault.

I use map my run (which I find to be very good - even the free version), Apple Music and the C25K on my phone simultaneously.

I’ve not had a problem with any of them running at the same time, they all seem to work well together so I get the notifications and prompts from each running app throughout the run while the music plays. The music volume dips when either app sounds and the C25K and Map my Run prompts don’t clash, so I get to hear both :)

Do you have a tracker watch or similar? We have Garmin watches and coupled with Strava and the Garmin Connect apps, we get lots of info from each run. Plus we can look at the watch details during the run and as I have a heart problem, I can gauge when I need to ease up a bit.

They both track the route and all the parameters you could want. We use Android phones so can't really comment on the Apple products, but suffice to say I nearly went bankrupt just looking at the price of an Apple watch! ;-)

Apple watches are inaccurate. I scrapped mine for a cheap garmin 35. Much better.

You can run the Strava app at the same time as the c25k and some music too. Enjoy!

I find Sportractive really good for tracking runs/walks etc. It can link in with most smartwatches too. It's less intrusive than Strava etc. All down to personal choice really.

Treat yourself to a garmin 35.
